So I must've missed this before, but your H is one of 9...NINE?! My god, I didn't think anyone had that many children anymore!!

Re: Alise

  • ughh stupid nest..giving me knot errors and eating my post.

     Ok...here goes again haha..

yes, DH is number 7 of 9. the oldest is 36, the youngests is 18. most are 14-16 months apart. I looooove being a part of a huge family, and its weird because when most of the siblings are there, it still feels like barely any are there...like there should be more.  DH has 5 sisters and 3 brothers.

Once, when I was 17 (DH and i had been dating for 7 months), he told me he wanted 8 kids. i've since gotten him down to 4.

After getting married, i aquired 6 sister in laws, 7 brother in laws, 8 neices, and 3 nephews.

  • I grew up with a huge extended family (one grandmother has 9 brothers and sisters and the other grandmother has 7) so I have tons and tons of cousins, but definitely not that big of an immediate family! I used to joke with DH that we were having 8 kids, but we're down to 3 :)
  • Holy huge families!  I'm a little jealous.  My extended family at holidays consists of my mom's brother and their mother.  None of my Dad's family is left, at least nearby that they keep in touch with.

DH's family isn't big either.  I really want lots of nieces and nephews someday, but that would mean my brother has to have kids and I don't see that happening honestly.  DH's brother is still young but really socially awkward.

  • I want my kids to have lots of cousins and be as close to them as I am with mine, but I have one sister (who swears she's never having kids) and DH has one brother (who just got married) and they want to wait like 6 years before having kids. I hope my friends have lots!
  • I'm so excited for our kids to have so many cousins, and I'm really hoping that a few of my SILs have another baby when we start in a few years.

    1. I would love to be pregnant at the same time as one of my SILs!

    2. all of my cousins are at least 7ish years difference than me, so I wasn't close with my cousins at all. I really want my kids to ahve that.

I'm jealous of your big inherited family. My sister isn't interested in having kids of her own**. DH's sister is still in the party-hard phase of her life and she's 40 so there's not a whole lot of time left for her to decide she wants kids. So more than likely my kids will have no cousins at all. It kind of breaks my heart because I can't imagine my childhood without all my cousins. They were such an important part of my growth as a person.

**Right now my sister is dating someone who already has two pre-teens and doesn't want more. The guy she dated before that didn't want kids but had a "surprise" baby. The guy before that had a vasectomy. The guy before that was sterile. See a pattern here?
