Help please: San Antonio with kids....

We are planning on going to San Antonio around Labor Day and I am looking for suggestions for kid-friendly hotels.  Hoping to stay on the Riverwalk, but not a neccesity.  Kiddos will be almost 3 years old and 8 months then.  Planning on doing the Zoo, Seaworld, and Schlitterbahn.  Any more recommendations??  Any "musts" as far as restaurants??

 Thanks so much!!

Re: Help please: San Antonio with kids....

  • Any particular reason you want to stay on the riverwalk? I would consider staying farther out so that you are closer to Sea World and easier access to Schlitterbahn in NB. Sorry though, I don't have any specific recs.
  • I live in New Braunfels...so I can help with some Schlittbahn ideas! :)

You can bring food and icechests into Schlitterbahn. Definitely wear some sort of flip flops or water shoes. (blisters on the bottom of your feet hurt) Parking is free. Rent a locker as soon as you get there to keep your keys and wallet/purse in. Sonic had admission coupons. If you don't want to bring food in, Pat's Place on Union Street is a short walk and is yummy!

As far as San Antonio...we always stay at the Hill Country Hyatt. It is near Sea World. They even have a little "river" to tube down.

My favorite restaurant on the River Walk is Boudro's Texas Bistro.

  • Six Flags Fiesta Texas is fun.
  • Another vote for the Hyatt Hill Country Resort. We spent our wedding night there, and it was obviously very family friendly, what with the lazy river and all. It is a bit pricey, but if you were planning to stay on the Riverwalk then I assume the price wouldn't be that big of a deal, and it is VERY close to Seaworld. After a long day there, I bet it would be nice to have a short drive back to your hotel.

I was very impressed with how much they've cleaned up the Riverwalk in the past few years, and we had a great time on the riverwalk tour, it was so romantic. However, we were going for romance so I'm not sure what else you can do with kids there.

Oh, and I remember the zoo being VERY hot and VERY crowded, and parking was a real pain. If you really want to do that, make it the first thing you do, and get there early!

  • I highly recommend Morgans Wonderland for younger children. We took a group of kids ranging from age 3 - 5 and they loved it there. It was very clean, not at all crowded (you have to make a reservation because they limit the number of guests), and every ride was a blast for our kids. Since there is little to no waiting in line, they could ride over and over again. It was easy to keep track of everyone in our large party. We will be going back again in the fall!
