Has anyone been to Niagara Falls?

We're going in Oct with some friends. Our hotel is in Canada.

If you've been or know anyone who has been- Do you have to bounce over the border to do activities and see the sights while you're there? If so, is it a pain every time? Should we change where we're staying?

Many thanks!

Re: Has anyone been to Niagara Falls?

  • We went to Niagara three years ago (stayed on the US side) and I went when i was a teen (stayed on the CA side). Canada has a better view in my opinion....so i would stick with where you are. Also all the novelty things like maid of the mist and cave of the winds are offered on both sides so you shouldn't have to cross over. The town on the US side is pretty run down (kind of sad, actually) so there should be more to do over in Canada.
  • I haven't been since I was a kid and border controls have changed a lot since then. I'd love to see a trip report though when you come back as I'd like to take DH sometime (he's never been).
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

Thanks so much! This is great info.

Rock, I'll def let you know all about it.

  • I've never been but my relatives went the other year and stayed on the US side and didn't like it. They said the Canadian side is much better. My grandmother agreed. I'd recommend staying where you are on the Canadian side.

  • DH and I went a few years ago and stayed on the american side. It would have been better to stay in CA since there is a lot more to do over there and the view is better but it was not difficult to cross over. We didn't need passports when we crossed the border but I think you might need them now. It should be empty in Oct though so you shouldn't have to wait in line at the border or anything. Have fun!
