So I was wandering around the boards...
and in one board is seemed like they were very anti-new people or "newbies." I read two different posts by people and there was a lot of negative comments by gold/silver members. Now my thought is that we were all new at one point in time (mine being now), so why put people down? It seems very high school to me. Over the last couple days here I've been reading and replying to posts I've seen a lot of welcoming on this board, and that is AWESOME! Maybe it's just the southern hospitality
What are your thoughts on this?
Re: So I was wandering around the boards...
Yes, there are cliques, but there are also people who aren't anti-newb per se, they're just anti-ignorance. Some people post and ask the most ridiculous questions or questions that are really just common sense. You get tired of answering the same questions, or even seeing the same questions asked.
Then you have the newbies who get upset about a question they asked when people give them honest answers without kissing their a*ss. So then they get all high and mighty and try to tell everyone that "boards are supposed to be about support...not being mean...blah, blah, blah."
I have nothing against anyone who is new to a message board, but I'm not going to play Kindergarten teacher either.
Some people just can't handle the truth. I have a couple friends like that, and I hardly talk to them anymore because they ask for my advice numerous times then don't really want to hear what I have to say, every time.
But when someone has a legitimate problem and all the following posts are about them being a newbie and critiquing their post, with no offering an answer is a little irritating to witness. Makes me feel like I'm watching Glee.
The one thing we all do have to remember, is some people so just lack common sense. I had to bare witness to this way too much in the four years I worked at Housing and Residence Life in college. Some people just can't help themselves. But all you can do is smile, and think to yourself "god you're an idiot."
