this makes me feel awky.

From a 3rd tri post asking whether internal exams hurt.

Yes, the higher you are the the thicker you are, the more it hurts. My OB purposely is a little more violent he says because he likes to get things "moving" so he stretches me and gets a little rough. It hurts like hell but does seam to help.. when I get internals by his NP they are nothing lol she is a very petite women. I have had 7.. they get better as you drop.

An OB being rough and "violent" during internal exams sounds wrong.  Like, cross my legs, find a new OB wrong.

Re: this makes me feel awky.

  • the word violent should never be used in reference to a vagina

  • Ewww.  I never had an internal exam while pregnant after my initial visit to the midwife.
  • I had a few last time and have had a few this time when there were some concerns about preterm labor. None of them were ever any more uncomfortable than a pap smear.

  • I'm going to name my band the Violent Vaginas and see if Winged comes to our concerts.
  • i do love concerts< but i love non violence toward vaginas more

  • Her male OB likes giving it to her rough and violent in internal exams and she's cool with it. Indifferent

HAS NO ONE TOLD HER THERE ARE BETTER WAYS TO GET THINGS MOVING? Christ.

Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
  • So you guys never had a stretch and sweep I take it? While I wouldn't say it was violent my MW was pretty much all up in there and it hurt like a MOFO.
  • But that sounds like that sort of exam is necessarily painful, Jen. This OB seems to get a little rough on purpose. Creeeeeeeeepo.

  • Yah her description is creeptastic. I just wonder if she is talking about a really rough S&S?

It's one thing to do that when you are term and trying to make some magic happen.

But 7 violent internals?  That's nuts.  I had one at 36 weeks, and would have had another at 40 weeks, but went into labor (and was only checked twice during labor).  They were uncomfortable, but not violent.  Yikes.

  • I had three different midwifes do an S&S. None of them told me first and the last one was rougher than the others. When I told her "that hurts", she impatiently snapped at me "just breathe, it'll be over in a minute." Um, what?

I've thought about writing the midwife's licensing board, not to get her in trouble, but because I think there should be clear rules like "ask someone's permission before jabbing your finger around inside their cervix".

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman

Yup. A S&S is a medical procedure and you should have given your permission. Oddly my S&S was scheduled for the day after Jo was born. I had a week to think it over first. I was never even given an exam prior to labour as they just didn't think it was necessary.

I dunno pdx, I'd probably inquire. That's just wrong.
