Car Insurance?
Now that most of the wedding craziness has settled down it is time to get new car insurance for me and DH. Who do you have insurance with? Any recommendations? TIA!

We did some serious shopping, with our age group- Im almost 26 & hes almost 29 Progressive was much cheaper for us than anyone else. We have older vehicles, so that may have made a difference. They also gave us quotes from a few other companies that matched the quotes we were given seperatley.
I used to be with Progressive, but actually found cheaper rates with State Farm shortly after I got my first renters policy with them (then they just increased when I moved). H and I had our own policies with them and just combined them after the wedding so we get all of the discounts. I have always had great service with them in the 2 different states I have lived in. The thing I didn't like about Progressive was not having an agent (I think I could have paid extra for it) in town. With State Farm, I have an agent very close to me if I need to stop in for anything.
I did not like Nationwide or Allstate. I was on the other end at the time I had to deal with them, but they still treated me like dirt even though I was not at fault in either of the accidents.
All in all, insurance companies can be put in the same boat with used car salesman, they will all tell you anything to get you in the door for that commission. Just shop around and do your homework to find the best rates for the state/area you live in.

I have Nationwide and I like it.
Britt you like Nationwide? I had them for my homeowner's for the last 3 years and they were douche bags. My latest bill- received as soon as we returned from the HM, fun- was 50% higher than the year before!! (I called 3 times and no one ever called me back! Jerks!) I just switched to Allstate for 50% cheaper (than THIS year's bill- AMAZING!)
I have Progressive, H has AAA. We'll combine them soon (I just couldn't handle switching HO and auto at the same time- 1 step at a time, plz) and will probably switch to Allstate b/c their multi-policy discounts kick as$

I do like them! I haven't had any accidents or any reason to really deal with them though so take it with a grain of salt.
A few of the girls said it... SHOP. I've lived in 3 different states and changed my insurance with each state because a different company was the cheapest. It's not the same wherever you go. As for a 'good' company, that can differ as well. I've had good experiences with all the insurance companies I've had (Progressive, AAA, and AllState), and I've also had things I didn't like about them.
And KMT said it too, it can depend on YOUR (and H's) situation, YOUR history, and all the other stuff, so car insurance is one thing I don't believe you can get a great recommendation from. A *bit* better from your local, but still not sufficient. Gotta do it yourself! Check all the major companies, see what ya find. Good luck!
Good point Z. Some companies care more about age than others. Some care more about location. Some care more about history. There are a million and one circumstances that will change your rate at any point.
DH and I both had progressive before. The day we got back from the honeymoon, I cancelled C's account and added him to my policy (I had diamand membership- he only had gold.) Seperately, DH paid 730 (DANG) for 6 months and I paid 200 for 6 months.. when we combined it was 357 total for both, so that was awesome. (DH has 4 traffic violations, 2 speeding and 2 for when he blacked out, after taking zertec, driving a company vehicle and crash into a gaurd rail.
In VA you have to have combined auto insurance with the people in your house hold (except for special circumstances- roommates, etc.) Not sure why, but it's a law.
Anyway, I like progressive. They're really easy to deal with and have accident forgiveness to, when you get to Gold/Diamond membership.

When we left State Farm, they went through some amount of work to correct a billing error with me (tracking me down out of state!). I was overall very pleased with them.
We currently have Progressive. A few months back, a guy backed into our car. Progressive was amazing at working things out very fast with his company (AAA). The money, and the work, car rental, all the do-dads that go with a car accident requiring shop work, was the easiest I've ever dealt with. In addition, payment is the easiest I've ever experienced.
