Re: The Eel is closing?
Hey, nice to see you
I read that on the FB page... but no more Eel? I kinda wish they'd just work out the kinks and keep it!

Me too!
Sorry, I was out of town yesterday.
Cory's been struggling with the finances at the Eel for, well, pretty much since they opened. He's an impulsive guy, and the fact of the matter is that he opened the Eel before they were ready and without a ton of thought put into it. Cory's also very straightforward, so if you saw everything he wrote explaining the situation on their Facebook page, that's pretty much the straight story.
He's going to close the doors at the Eel location and do some revamping to turn it into Uncle Cheetah's Soup Shop. Basically it'll be a local version of Zoup. There will be only a couple sandwiches/salads because the focus will really be on the soup. Cory established himself on Wealthy Street, before the Cheetah opened, selling his soups at The Sparrows, so this is kind of a return to what he knows best. When he opened the Eel he was the first to tell you that he wasn't an Asian food expert and the Eel was just kind of his interpretation of the food...and to a lot of people, I think that showed in the food. You win some, you lose some, I suppose. Cory's not a very patient guy and if something isn't working, he wants to change it ASAP.
Thanks for the info! I have been a big fan of all the Cheetah soups I've tried, so hopefully this one has a stronger opening right out of the gate. Incidentally, there's an article on mLive about it today.
