My "Trash the dress" is this Sunday!

I mentioned this in my confession - about how excited I am!

That's news only because I said I'd never do one the whole time I was engaged, and never considered it after the wedding (you know what they say about saying "never"...lol)...and then...all of a sudden, I was giving it another look, and decided it wouldn't be the worse thing in the world to don the dress again and take some really great, artistic shots (I'm not going to really "trash" mine...I couldn't bear to even think about destroying my gown)...it helps that the photog I'm using is awesome and well known for really creative TTD shoots...

Sooo...what about it ladies? Have any of you done it? Thought about it? Plan to??? Think it's crazy (lol)?

Re: My "Trash the dress" is this Sunday!

  • that sounds like SO much fun!! :) I wish it was in the budget! I can't wait to see the pics you get from it!
  • Yay!!  I so want to do this...just to get back in my dress and get some more AWESOME pictures.

Since our wedding day was rainy our photographer wanted to get together again to do it.  With our busy schedules this summer it won't happen.  So I was thinking about doing it for our first anniversary!  I guess I better contact my photog to get a date before she books up!

Can't wait to see your pics!

  • Thanks for the support, guys! I was a little nervous at first, but now I am getting more excited as we get closer to the weekend :-) And also, it was rainy our wedding day as well, and the grass was still wet, so we couldn't get too artsy on our wedding day, either! I can't wait to post the pics to show you ladies!!

There is a girl on my local board that is doing a TTD session with her DH for their 1 year and they are going all out for it. It seems like it would be something really fun to do! I would LOVE to wear my dress again!

  • @ Mandah - that does sound like fun! I'd love to get DH to do it with me, but he said it was all I could do to get him "trussed up" the first time...lol...So, I'm on my own with this one...he is coming with us, to help out, but I'll try to get him in a few of the pics!

  • awesome!!!

i REALLY REALLY REALLY want to do a TTD session next year/summer... our photographers sucked... well i think they did and would love my "dream photographer" to do a session at the same location most likely w/ DH.... maybe not in a tux but at least a black suit.  i keep dropping hints that it would be the "most wonderful first anniversary gift" as he knows i am not anywhere happy with my photos!!!

good luck and puh-lease share with us asap!!!!!!

ps don't be afraid to get funky and bring some crazy high heels or your dog or some fun props - enjoy yourself - and dry cleaners are around to get the sand/dirt/grass stains etc out of your dress!!!

  • Thanks, Dayze! I have been kicking around the idea of bringing my two little fur-babies along :-) Woo hoo!! And to your first point - I think my photog dropped the ball a bit when it came to full length shots of me (from the front) on my wedding day...most of my full length shots are either from the side (with others in the photo with me) or from the back with me looking over my shoulder...so I certainly want to get some great shots of the dress from a lot of different angles before we really start having fun with it!!

  • I wanted to do a TTD session but never got around to it....yet.  My friend Melanie had a photographer frined that was willing to do it for free, but the stipulation was I had to get wet.  I didn't want to completely RUIN my dress, so I opted out of it.  :(

  • Festive gal: why on earth would someone make that type of stipulation? That seems nuts...I agree with you - under those circumstances, I wouldn't have done one either!

My photographer does whatever type shoot the bride wants; if a bride wants to really trash the dress (get dirty, get in water, etc), then she's ok with that...but if a bride only wants to take some great artistic photos, just without the worry of "what if a spec of dirt gets on my dress" type worries (which would be me!!), then she does those as well.

We are photographing in a beautiful state park near my home in MD that has covered bridges, stone arched bridges, old fashioned suspension bridges (yes, a lot of bridges!), as well as cascading water falls and pretty green locations. I am prepared for my dress to get a little dirty under the bottom (which it already did at the wedding), but nothing that a cleaner can't get out. I hope you'll reconsider, just with a new photographer :-) BTW, I don't know what the price range is in your area, but mine is going to run $250 for a 2 hour session (not including travel time)...so, not cheap, but not too bad either!

  • Yeah my dress is dirty on the bottom too. It was too long anyhow!

I don't know if this photographer was doing a test run of something that involved water; not sure.  I'd love to do a TTD at Hart Plaza downtown Detroit along the waterfront where I originally wanted to go for my wedding pictures (we did them inside the DIA since it was cold and windy that day), but I just don't have the extra funds with a new house and now a new vehicle too!  :(  Getting used to a car payment again...

  • I hear ya! But you gotta promise to share your pics when you do get around to taking them :-) I've been thinking up poses all day...lol...the photographer that I'm using is well known not only for her great work, but for also getting pictures back to you in a timely fashion (which I'm sad to say isn't the case with our wedding photographer...married in April, it's July, and they are telling us it'll be August before we get our pictures...Angry)...so I am hoping to be able to post some pics in the next two weeks or so :-)
