Charity softball tournament help

A friend of mine had a baby a few weeks ago and he has been in the NICU ever since.  The cord was wrapped around his neck and they were afraid he would have brain damage.  I won't go into the details here, but you can follow his blog http://portermcclain.blogspot.com/ to read all about him and the tournament.  It's really a sad situation. (Warning: the blog has music so turn speakers down at work.)

We are putting together a "Pray-n-Play Softball Tournament" next Saturday, July 31st.  We need donations to help buy the meats and supplies for a concession stand, as well as companies to donate services, items, etc. for a raffle.  Do you have ideas of companies to ask?  This will be in a small town about an hour and a half from Atlanta.  I've got a photo session from my photographer, a golf course has donated a round of golf, I'm waiting to hear back from a local hair dresser to offer a free cut and a detailing company to offer a car wash/detail. Any other ideas?  It's hard because it's short notice.  We are getting the softball field for free and that's when we could use it.  We really need money to buy the food, drinks and t-shirts with.  It's just hard to come out of pocket for all this up front.

Re: Charity softball tournament help

  • I'd try a local grocery store in their town. Sometimes you can get them to donate store brand items like soft drinks and hot dog and hamburger buns. If someone knows the local Coke or Pepsi distributor, they may donate some drinks.
  • That would really help.  Especially if they donated meat.  Thanks!  I mean, it won't hurt to ask.

    Any other ideas? Suggestions?

They won't donate meat like steak, hamburger, chicken, etc. Trust me. The expense is too great (I used to work in the grocery industry). You may be able to get some store brand hot dogs or premade burger patties out of them. Does the town have a local butcher or food distributor? Sometimes they will donate.  LOCAL businesses in that town are your best bet.
