We decided to make our own album since our photog wanted to charge $2800 for one book. We found this place where you can design your own. It gives you tons of templates and you can do what you want with it. All you have to do is download the free software. We got 2 books and paid about $800. The price depends on how many pages and what kind of book. We got one of each. One had thinner pages but the leather bound one looked just like my photogs books.
My DH placed the order yesterday around 10am and put next day air. They arrived on his desk this morning. We were shocked and once we opened them we were so shocked at how good they came out. I dont know if anyone is making their own but check out this place. They even told us they wanna use our book as a sample on their website.

Re: Anyone making your own albums?

Hippie, do you know if shutterfly has albums with the pages that lay flat (I can't think of the technical term at the moment)? Any idea what I'm talking about?
Bio updated 8/6/10 with a few pro pics
Not a clue, sorry! I just know that my sis/step-mom and many knotties have had wonderful things to say about Shutterfly. (I can let you know in a few weeks when we purchase ours, though!)

That is awesome. Glad you had fun with it and were happy with the way it came out.
Our photographer put all of our pics together for us in an album. My parents and H parents and both Grandma's are going to order albums as well. Neither of our parents want to do it themselves.
We used Blurb for our engagement pictures and they print right on the cover (hard or soft) and also have other options and we did our 20 page guest book with epics (ton of photos used) it was $25 and that was for 20-40 pages. Lots of girls on my local recommend them.

This is pretty cool. I was thinking of putting together a book of all of the proofs, since we don't get a proof book. Thinking, not necessarily going to do it.
Thanks for the link!
Finally...we are Mr. & Mrs.!!! WooHoo!!!

We did this, too. I plan to use Blurb again for our albums (if we ever get pictures back!). They have a sale right now, 20% off their books. The code is: LIBERATION and it expire 7/31.
My Planning Bio
Visit Winkflash.com. Their albums are much like blurb or shutterfly and through 8/31, they are 60% off. We're ordering our proof books throught them. Pages that lay flat are either called flush mount or hinged.
Try blackriverimaging.com for more flushmount options.
I believe Shutterfly only has photo books, printed on regular paper, that do not lay flat. I've used Mpix for prints before and they're great; they have lay flat albums printed on thick pages and range in price from $80 to $300. http://www.mpix.com/Product.aspx/assembledalbums
