Why can't men just go with the flow
OMG....why can't men handle change of plans. We were talking about what to do about Allison's b-day party if it rains on Sat. My thought is just to move it to Chuck-E-Cheese. TH has a million and one excuses why we shouldn't do that. He would rather tell the GR people that we will get together another day and drive all the way to flint to celebrate with my parents. He thinks CEC will be way to expensive but thinks paying for gas and two parties will be cheaper (head slap)
Now I'm going to to an excel spreadsheet to show him the cost of the three options (home, CEC, or a Flint and GR party). Life shouldn't be this complicated.
Re: Why can't men just go with the flow
HAHAHA! I can't tell you how many spreadsheets I've created for my husband to compare costs. Hell, this upcoming vacation alone has required half a dozen!
I totally understand where you're coming from. I've found that any time I suggest anything to my husband, he immediately starts listing off the negatives, and doesn't consider the positives. Sounds like Brian is the same way? Their brains just operate differently or something. Super-duper analytical.
Good luck!
ETA: By the way, I'm not laughing AT you... I'm laughing because it's ironic how much this situation sounds familiar to me.
I love the spreadsheet idea! LOL
Don't really, I knew you weren't laughing. Another unnamed Nestie and I had a phone conversation like this about an hour ago. I think our hubbies are the same.
I did a spreadsheet and by the time you add up all the expenses CEC is only like $10 more than our at home party and about 30 more than doing two parties.
What bugs me is that he is SO irrational when he gets in these moods. He suggested going to Flint for the party and then I brought up CEC. He was against that idea because how we would bring back all the presents, even though our neighbors who we share a driveway with is gong to the party and his parent can easily stop by and drop off stuff. So coming in from Flint wiht just one car wouldn't be an issue. AND best of all, he made the comment, I don't want to do that because we are going to have to get in the car and drive over there.... CEC is like 8 minutes from our house. So an almost 2 hour drive is fine but 8 minutes is a hassel.
Another of his things is that he doesn't like their pizza so what would he eat. OMG.....you are a grown man, you can wait until 6 pm and pick up something on the way home. This isn't about you, it is about your 3 year old child, whom we have been telling for weeks is going to have a party and that such and such people are coming.
After five years of marriage, I really should know by now not to bring up ideas without having everything laid out on paper and emailing it to him at work.
This was his response to my email
Money is an element to the final decision, but the added expense of fuel & our time to drive to Flint and then throwing another party for my parents and the others from this side of the state after coming back from vacation would mean all that extra expense as well for that option. I guess Chuck E. Cheese would make the most sense if we need to move the party indoors.
Okay, I was snickering at the first post, and now I'm full-blown laughing. Your husband is hilarious! And I know I can only say this as an outsider to the situation, because if this were happening to me, I'd be going insane!
In my marriage, I am the one who can't go with the flow. I have been known to freak out on several occasions when things didn't go according to plan.
Also, I wouldn't want to have a party at CEC just because I don't like that place, but I think under the circumstances as a backup plan, it just makes sense. His plan of going to Flint at the last minute is kind of crazy. I think you can convince him to come around.
Welcome to my world. Goodness...no wonder why I'm gray. ha ha. Seriously, I just need to remember that I have to work with his personality traits and life will be better. Sometimes I just want to tape our converasation and write it out to show him where he contridicates himself. Ok, off to go clean the house. Hopefully I have at least an hours before the kids wake up.
He's 100% left-brained, isn't he?
Sorry for your frustrations. I hope the weather and everything else with the birthday party works out for you!
I would say 110% but that statement there would drive him crazy. ha ha!!
Ha!
Thanks for the tip of a spreadsheet as a tool for communication.
This thread is full of great phrases that I have to remember when in a difficult conversation with Jim. I can't recall how many times I've said, "I wish this conversation was recorded so we could listen to it again later."
-the unnamed Nestie on the phone earlier.
So we have agreed on CEC, however he wants to make a decision NOW..."no, we will decide on Sat morning." He wants to let his parents know by tomorrow night when he brings the dog over. No, seriously, we live 5 mintues from CEC, you can call them Sat morning to let them know. Just give them a heads up that we might have to change the time to 3:30.
He is such a spaz! ha ha.
