Shiite--BCBS insurance rate increasing at work *VENT*

Well, our insurance premiums are now going up. For DH and I (we work at the same company), the increase isn't too bad...but for little DS tush, it's about $100 every two weeks! Ugh.

Oh, however they did provide a "preferred" network with less doctors on it but with less expensive premiums. However, there is not one pediatrician in Norman that is provided nor an OB/GYN! Give me a freakin' break. Does our office not know how many employees have children, and kids who have probably seen the same pediatrician since their birth???

With everything going on in Washington DC, I figured insurance companies would do something eventually.

Thanks for letting me rant. I know companies have to do their thing, but when it hits the my pocketbook I get irritated.

  • I know how you feel. Our BCBS wet up recently, too. It's very irritating.
  • I think my co-pay and deductible are going up. Drives me freaking insane. And, the one that's cheaper - BluePreferred - isn't really taken by anyone. This is ridiculous.

They haven't announced the premium increases yet, but I'm sure they're coming. Ugggggh.

  • I HIGHLY suggest looking into an individual plan for your LO.  A few of our employees have their kids and/or spouse on individual plans because of the cost savings.

Our company pays for the employee coverage but not deps.  We recently switched everyone over to Aetna from BCBS and agreed to pay 1440 of each 2000 deductible because the premiums are so much lower that by paying employee deductibles it still saves our company a ton of money.

To cover a family of three it was going to be over $1200 a month with  $1000 deductible per person.  Now it is right at $625 and the deductible is really only $560 per person.  Aetna recently expanded their provider list so it was a bit easier on our general office population.

I know isurance premiums suck, just wait...  With all of the changes that are proposed most people will not be happy.  Do you have a Flex/125/cafe account?  Those are changing big time in the next couple of years!

  • wow!  that seems high to me.  We pay around that and have all 4 of us covered with an individual plan.  Granted, we don't have maternity coverage, but I agree with Bri that it might be cheaper to get an individual plan

  • Hmmm I'll have to share this with DH.  His health insurance was through BCBS, but the company decided to switch to Aetna in July.  He wasn't happy about it, but may be if he knows they just increased their rates.
  • DH's BCBS went up last year and my copays went from $15 to $50 on HealthChoice. Yay for money grubbers!!!

Yikes!  I was on HealthChoice but switched to Global Health.  My copay only went from $15 to $25 and my BCP went from $20/month to $10 for 3 months worth of pills.  I'm sure you have reasons for being on HC, but just an FYI in case you'd be interested in changing this fall.

Yep according to DH I need to keep HChigh because it was the lesser of 2 evils.

Understandable.  I went through that freaking insurance booklet a million times trying to figure out what the heck to do and decided GH was best for me for what I needed.  Hopefully I don't regret it.
