Here comes Bonnie

The tropical storm is coming! This is the strangest thing ever -- like there is absolutely no doubt that the storm will be here in Naples by 2:00 today, and yet no one seems to give a crap. Literally - offices are all open, not closing early, i have a doctors appointment that everyone expects me show up for. I know it's not a hurricane but it's still 40 mph winds, geez!

Re: Here comes Bonnie

  • I've been so out of the loop with the news lately and I just this morning heard that it was going to hit and I'm like...we have nesties there!!!

Hopefully some sense gets knocked into people today!!

  • I guess the ppl of Fla are just so used to the weather it's no big thing! Just a little rain and wind, that's all ;-) Funny how it is a mindset though-you get conditioned to certain weather when you know how to deal with it.

  • I have cousins in Naples too and haven't seen or heard her mention anything on facebook! My bridesmaid that lives in Coral Springs mentioned something yesterday about a storm brewing in the Caribbean - she lives about 10 miles from the coast but for some reason I thought Coral Springs was near Ft. Lauderdale on the Atlantic side. I just hope they don't get hit too hard - they're starting roof repairs on Monday!!!  Hope you all stay safe!!!

  • They say Bonnie will cross into the gulf and into Louisiana on Sunday. However, southeast Texas is in the cone and the other storms this year have stayed to the left of the cone. We really don't need any more rain here (got plenty from the bands of Hurricane Alex and tropical depression #2). Hope y'all stay safe this weekend and don't have too many promblems from this storm!

  • Cindy you have to come visit your family in Naples and see me!!! :)

Coral Spring is on the other coast -- Bonnie came from the Bahamas and is headed straight across Miami/Ft. Lauderdale through Naples and the Keys and then out into the gulf.

Though, I still remain the sole citizen of SW Florida who cares!

  • It is the same way in North FL. no one really cares unless it gets to a stronger cat 1 or cat 2 hurricane and then places start to close. Apparently at my job though they have worked through a cat 4 Hurricane back in the 80s just so they get their publication sent out. The power was out and they had a generator that was strong enough to run one lightbulb and the printing press. They have been in business for 40 years and have never missed a single publication.. I don't think work will ever be cancelled due to hurricanes... sigh.

  • My brother and his family have  lived in Florida for the past almost 20 years and have that same "Floridian" mindset that many have - "not a Cat 4 or 5? not going nowhere!"...lol...He says he's as used to them as we are the big snows in the North...but still - these things can turn dangerous in a heartbeat, so take care!!

  • I've been here for 5 years so I guess I'm just a big sissy compared to the rest of Florida.

Although they were right today....we got less rain than a typical summer storm and now the sun is out!
