Recently I watched the movie 27 dresses for the first time. I reminisced a bit about my own experiences as a bridesmaid. Fortunately, I've had some great moments as a bridesmaid/maid of honor, but one was not so good...
One year, when I was in college, I came home for the summer. A new girl had moved into town and had befriended my circle of friends. We hung out that summer and had a pleasant friendship. At the end of the summer, she announced she was getting married and asked me to be a bridesmaid. I was flattered (I think it was my first time non-family related that I was asked to be bridesmaid). And although I didn't know her too well, I agreed. The wedding was going to be in 2-3 months, so I had to try on the bridesmaids dresses ASAP. I did and I bought the dress...only to have her tell me a few weeks later that she had postponed the wedding. I held onto the dress. At that point it may have been too late to return it, and in reality the wedding had only been postponed not canceled, so I still intended to wear it.
I returned to college and studied abroad that spring semester. During my study abroad, I got an email from the bride-to-be saying that she had rescheduled the wedding for April and she wanted my address so she could mail me an invite. She didn't even mention the whole bridesmaid issue...And, umm, I was abroad until May. So I brought up the whole bridesmaid issue and she just said "oops." She got married in April and that was that. I didn't pursue the friendship.
I think years later I finally donated the dress to some cause.
Any bridesmaids stories?
Re: I'm glad I don't have 27 dresses
All of my bridesmaid stories were good ones. The only one that I can think of that I had a little problem is:
When my BFF was getting married, we were at her mom's house getting our hair done and getting dressed. The limo pulled up and we were going down the steps from the second floor. My heel caught on the carpeting and I fell down the entire flight of steps. I didn't have any major injuries but I tore the dress right up the seam and I was pretty sore. I was so upset and worried that I ruined her wedding. Fortunately, her mom knew how to sew and quickly stitched the dress. I limped down the aisle and got very drunk at the reception. Over all, the wedding was great and no one knew that it had happened besides the wedding party.
Glad, for the most part, all your bridesmaid's stories are good ones
Wow, you fell down an entire flight of stairs! 'm guessing that hurt quite a bit. At least the dress ripped at the seams and someone knew how to sew it up quickly.
