but I have to ask. We got married on 10/17/09 and I have yet to get my wedding dress cleaned. I'm finally starting to think about this more now and I'm needing some help. I have decided that I do want to preserve my gown, however, I don't want it to be in that traditional box that I will never pull out. I'm thinking more along the lines of a large shadow box type of deal that once the dress is cleaned I can have someone (hopefully) do a preservation process w/ it and put it in the shadow box. I want to be able to display the gown somewhere rather than having it in a box that will only get tucked away.
Have any of you heard of something like this? I haven't done ANY kind of research on it but I just know there has to be a way to do it. I'm basically wanting to find some type of preservation method that I can keep my dress in tact but have it displayed so if you can suggest anything that you have heard of or seen done, that would be most appreciated! TIA!
Re: Might be a long shot...
So I'm not crazy. Thanks for the story. That is so cute and it makes me want to do this even more.
The best picture I could find of my dress (link below) isn't the best, but it gives you an idea. It really isn't as poofy as it looks in the picture. I was thinking the same thing about keeping it in a place on the wall where it wouldn't be affected by sun.

Maybe talk to a company that does preservation. You may be able to have it cleaned and preserved then put it in a shadow box yourself. My dress was done through DB and it came back like this
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Wedding-Gown-Preservation-Kit-DAVIDS-WGP
When they sent it back they sent a little kit with gloves and info stating I could take the dress out of the box if I wanted to look at it, I just had to wear the gloves to prevent any oil getting on the dress. I don't remember if there were any additional details or info on taking the dress out of the box. It's not sealed air tight or anything that I know of. So I would think putting it in a shadow box would be just about the same.
Hopefully this makes sense.
If would ask the preservation company if this would work or not? Or what would happen if the dress was in the shadow box compared to the box they put it in?
