How do you get man sweat smell out of clothes?
Alright, is my man the only one who has clothes that have the perma-sweat man smell in tshirts that he wears regularly? I tried vinegar but it didn't do much, maybe I didn't let it sit long enough. Anything else you can think of that will get rid of it? I'd rather just throw them away one by one but some are his favorites.
Re: How do you get man sweat smell out of clothes?
I was in charge of the laundry for the whole family when I was growing up. My dad and brother dig graves for a living, so they sweat A LOT and get really, really dirty. I wouldn't let my mom buy anything other than Wisk powdered detergent. It was the only thing that got the caked-in mud out of their pants and shirts.
I would do what Stu suggested, too, and add a half-cup of baking soda to the wash along with your detergent. It's supposed to work wonders.

I use this on our floors! I had no idea you could use it in the washer to.
Adam works construction and comes home soaking wet, too, but fortunately, not smelly at all!!!
My HH plays hockey too! And I agree, the hockey stench is like nothing else I have experienced.
My HH stuff doesnt really smell but he gets awful pit stains. I make a mixture of half baking soda half hydrogen peroxide and mix it together, and apply to the pit stains on shirts. Let it soak in over night and then wash regularly. I swear I reclaimed about 10 work shirts and even more for him.
I think the key might be to just wash the stuff asap. Because sweat itself doesn't actually stink, it's only OLD sweat that stinks...like if you've let it sit and get dry. It's the reason that you don't stink when you're sweating at the gym, but if you don't shower and you go home in your gym clothes and sit in them for a few hours, you're pretty rank.
I googled (yes, I love google) and this is what I found. I remember learning this in health class in junior high too...
The actual sweat of a human does not stink. The underarm areas are breeding grounds for odor-causing bacteria, the armpits are among the most consistent warm places on the body; and sweat glands produce water; hence a home for bacteria and stink. The smell is produced when bacteria proliferate in the warm moist environment on the body. Bacteria are active at a certain pH; a human body's pH differs from one to another; that's why some people may stink worse than others may. If your pH is abnormal then you will attract more bacteria, which is not found on people with normal pH. Many deodorants today have antibacterial fighting agents, like propylene glycol and triclosan, in the ingredients that inhibit the growth of bacteria. Besides using stronger deodorants with antibacterial ingredients; you may want to think about changing your diet. Sugars and Starches found in empty carbohydrates causes an individual's pH to be abnormal.
Ok apparently mine is the only stinky one, lol. Let me say though that it's not BO, it's like a deoderant, old shirt, wearing it over and over smell. I'm sure the 90+ degree weather with the 90+% humidity doesn't help.
Thanks for your ideas!
jewhaley - ditto on the hockey gear.
BURN EM! J/J....you know what stinks really bad too....my soccer chin (shin?) guards....BARF.
Anyway....Cody isn't horrible....even though he works outside in 100 degree weather but we use Purex and sometimes the Arm and Hammer detergent and it works pretty well.
