Best Indian food in cinci...where to get it

I had Indian food for the first time a few weeks back and i've been craving it since.  It was so delicious but it was also in MI so i'm looking for an amazing place here in cinci, doesn't matter what part of town.  I don't mind driving for a good meal!  DH has never had it before so i'm thinking a buffet would be best for him to get acquainted with all the yummy dishes.  So, recommend your favorite Indian restaurant please and thank you!

  • Baba India on Madison Road is awesome!!  They have a lunch buffet that is really good also.  Anand India is in Clifton which is owned by the same people, but I don't think (don't quote me on it though) they have a buffet.  Those are my 2 favorite places for Indian by far.  Now I'm hungry for it.  Smile

Baba and Ambar are my two favorites!  Lovey is correct, Ambar does not have then lunch buffet.

  • Dusmesh is hands down, my favorite (and that's saying a lot, I used to live next door to Baba India). They have a lunch buffet, but I don't know if they also have it during the weekend. It's located near Cincinnati State.

  • There are plenty of great places for Indian... Ambar Baba and Guru are all the same menu (pretty sure they are owned by the same people). Most only do lunch buffets, but if you can do that its worth it. We also love Krishna in Clifton, Its a take out place but VERY good. They might look a little odd, but they are great.

We went there yesterday for lunch.  They do have a nice lunch buffet but my favorite dish (chicken tikka masala) was not the best.  It was watery rather than creamy.  Maybe it would have been better had I ordered from the menu?

  • Ambar (Clifton) is favorite overall, hands down.  You can find cpns for I think $3 off 2nd meal in the Bearcat Booklets on street magazine stands nearby or BOGO in the Entertainment Book.

Ambar, Baba (Hyde Park), Akash (Downtown), Kanak (Montgomery), and Raja (West Chester) are all the same owner.  I've tried them all except Kanak and IMO Ambar is far superior and I think it's because the cooks are obviously different from restaurant to restaurant.  It's the richest/creamiest and full of Indian spice flavor.  Yum.  I want some now.

If you want buffet, New Krishna (Sharonville) is my favorite.  They sometimes have cpns in those Reach magazines and stuff.

Perhaps, we went for the lunch buffet as well and got there just as they opened, everything was pretty good when we went (I can't remember if they had chicken tikka masala that day though). I was all hung up on the carrot dessert thing (that is seriously awesome).

Christine, my diet demands that you make something else and post a picture of it--I don't know how much longer I can withstand the picture of that coffeecake!

Lol I'm sorry!  I will try to do a new blog post tonight so that you will not have to endure the pain.  Of course, I can also recommend that you say to heck with the diet and make/eat it anyway! :P

  • LOL, I might have to make it anyway, just to get the craving out of my system. Then I give it to DH & DD.

This place is my absolute favorite- the best imo :)  Yummmm

  • I'm a little late - but I'd also recommend Ambar (Clifton) and Raja (Mason). I had Raja yesterday. It's delicious!

  • Another vote for Ambar, although the place by Cincy State isn't bad either - and it's usually less crowded so you don't have a wait on weekend nights. Ambar is the only place on Ludlow I'd bother with though - Amol and Apnu are sub-par in comparison.

Baba's great too. And Vishnu is awesome for carry-out.

  • Ambar is my favorite as well. Do you happen to know whether the Indian food you enjoyed was northern style or southern style? Most Indian restaurants in Cincinnati serve North Indian cuisine rather than South Indian cuisine. The styles are distinctive, so if you are expecting one and get the other, you might be surprised.

    We love this place!!

I like the places that serve some South Indian food.  Ambar & it's sister places serve mainly creamy North Indian dishes while South Indian is less creamy, spicy, and doesn't focus quite as much on meat.  Maybe not a good choice for someone who has never had Indian before!  Taj Mahal on Route 4 in Springdale has a good mix but the service & quality can be hit or miss.  There's a new place in West Chester called Bali that is good.  It's in the shopping center with the Big Lots.

  • I have no idea which type Norhtern or Southern Indian food i had, all i know is that it was yummy.  We're gonna try New Krishna tomorrow night since it's really close to us.  If it's not up our alley then we'll just try them all until we find one we love.  Thanks for all the recs!
  • Tandoor in Montgomery is so much better than Baba India!
  • Tandoori is the best in Cincinnati Try Vindaloo chicken it is my favourite!!!!
  • Ambar, Ambar, Ambar.  Big Smile

    Ditto.

I go to Baba's sometimes because it's close, but their chicken tikka masala isn't nearly as good as Ambar's, so I order the saag at Baba's.  For take-out nights, Krishna in clifton is my second favorite.

So, I put them in this order.

    Ambar

    Ambar

    Ambar

    Krishna

    Baba's

    Anand's

Then the rest of them are all pretty comparable from there.
