McCain yesterday...trying to reign in the crazies

this TPM bit summed it up nicely

http://talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/223572.php

It has the youtube videos imbedded into it, so I won't C&P it here.  To summarize, it just shows McCain at the rallies taking questions from people saying they are scared of Obama, he's an "arab" or a "terrorist."

McCain's reaction is really something to see.  Reading about it doesn't do it justice.  My husband and I caught it on TV last night and watched it three times, it was that powerful.

It's like watching a person, at the apex of his career, and realizing it is all over and he's going down in ugly, disgraceful flames.  It's sad. It's apparent he has absolutely no control over his campaign and he's just been run over by Rick Davis and Karl Rove alumni.  But, he is the one that should be running it, and at the end of the day, he is accountable.

Blame aside, it is still sad when you watch him realize it and try to reclaim his dignity.  TPM also asked this morning whether Karl Rove's henchmen did more damage to in him 2000 or 2008.  It's a valid question and the answer is obvious to me.

Re: McCain yesterday...trying to reign in the crazies

  • I know.  I don't know if the campaign has yet drawn a connection between their ads and their supporters behavior.  But, it's not like this stuff was going down a few weeks ago, or when HRC was running and talking about it.  It is their ads and their VP that is causing this, I don't think many people question that.

The next few days are going to be interesting.  I wonder if they will pull the ads and reign Palin in?  Perhaps mix in a few positive, issues ads in with the 100% negative they are running now?

Last night on Rachel Maddow, Ana Marie Cox from Time was talking about it and she had some really interesting things to say.  If the clip is on the MSNBC website or youtube, I highly recommend it.

  • The video is really incredible. ?Even though I am no McCain fan, I felt bad for him in a way. ?That he cozied up to these people he never should have and now he is finally having to reap what he sowed. ?I think he's a better guy than all of this has allowed him to be and it is really unfortunate that this is now his legacy.

  • They are completely ridiculous.  I'm watching CNN right now and they are showing footage of this garbage.

McCain/Palin is a complete and total JOKE.
