So I was supposed to have my first dentist appt Monday ( for fillings) after having my wisdom teeth out, and I called today to cancel because #1 I feel like I have been to the dentist/working on my teeth so much these last two months and #2 We can't really afford the $ 400 bill that comes with the appt. So I decided I would just postpone it until next month. So I called today (even though I know I should have called earlier I had planned to yesterday but forgot)....and they were so rude about it! I understand it is an inconvinence but serioulsy they have a 24 hour cancelation policy...which I fall into with or without the weekend (without the weekend, It was like exactly 24 hours). The lady asked what my reason was and I said work, then she repeatedly asked if I could get out of it...and then went on to explain what a HUGE inconvience this is because the dentist had this time reserved for me and now he has nothing....So I hung up feeling bad...DH says I should let it go because we have put a lot of money in at this dentist and they have rescheduled last minute on us before but still I wish she hadn't been so rude, now I'm nervous to even go in there for my next appt.
Re: Vent (kinda long)
Ummm...she said what!??!! That was rude and completely inappropriate behavior on her behalf. Irregardless of the reason for cancellation they should say okay and and just reschedule a different day.
I agree with DH...let it go. Maybe see if you can get some suggestions for different dentists in your area from family and friends.

I would be searching for a new dentist NOW, and then I would let my old dentist know precisely why I was switching.
But that's bc I'm kind of a b*tch and have zero tolerance for rude people
Yeah - Rude people providing any service that I have to pay for is a huge bugaboo with me...so, first - don't worry about it. It sounds like her goal was to "guilt" you into changing your mind about cancelling your appointment. Trust, me - I'm sure this dentist has had to call many people to tell them that they needed to reschedule for some reason or another (most times, you get one; they just call and say that you need to reschedule!)...we don't get to say "But I took off from work just for this...are you sure he can't still come do my (whatever it is)?"
Next, agree with pp...I'd be looking for a new dentist. Being a rude service provider is never acceptable. If I'm paying, I expect to be treated properly. Or else, I'll be taking those dollars to another business. Vote with your feet on this one!!
Yeah she sucks. And she's wrong. People call in for emergency appointments all the time, so even if you cancelling opens up the schedule I'd bet anything they can fill it just from walk-ins.
Don't let her make you feel bad about having to cancel.
