God's reputation will be ruined if HE lets Obama win

John McCain rally in Iowa marked by partisan prayer

Rev. Arnold Conrad, in delivering an invocation at a rally today for John McCain in Davenport, Iowa, apparently didn't get the word from the candidate about elevating the tone at such gatherings. Conrad, who appeared before the crowd before McCain had arrived, offered a prayer that seemed to urge divine intervention to prevent Barack Obama from winning the presidential election -- and cast the outcome as a referendum on differing religions. The Times' Maeve Reston was at the event, and she passed along the key passage from Conrad's words:

I would also pray Lord that your reputation is involved in all that happens between now and November, because there are millions of people around this world praying to their God -- whether it's Hindu, Buddha, Allah -- that his [McCain?s] opponent wins for a variety of reasons.

And Lord I pray that you would guard your own reputation, because they?re going to think that their god is bigger than you, if that happens. So I pray that you would step forward and honor your own name in all that happens between now and Election Day. Oh Lord, we just commit this time to you, move among us, make your presence very well felt as we are gathered here today in Jesus's name I pray.

Some in the crowd greeted the prayer with applause.

Repulsive! Ick!

Re: God's reputation will be ruined if HE lets Obama win

  • I'd laugh if this was not so pathetic.  yikes!
  • WHY do people eat this stuff up??? I just read the clerics in Iran are celebrating our economic distress because it is proof god is punishing the west.
  • And how is this acceptable at a political rally? How is it OK for MPC to have people say this shiit?
Warning No formatter is installed for the format bbhtml
  • This kinda reminds me of when people pray for their sports team to win...as if the other fans aren't praying too.

And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this Rock I will build my Church, and the gates of Hell shall not prevail against it.
  • That is both really sad and hilarious at the same time.

Ditto.  I believe in God, but do not believe he is all for punishing or 'protecting His reputation' from us.  We are the ones that can be all sorts of crazy.

I wonder if McCain was informed of his remarks once he arrived? I hope he does not request his services again.

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • Oh yes, all of those people praying to the God "Hindu"...Confused

I'm pretty sure that you don't technically pray to Buddha either since he isn't considered a god by the adherents of Buddhism.

But just in case pray a lot ya'll! Can't let those Asians choose our president with their prayin'.

"We tend to be patronizing about the poor in a very specific sense, which is that we tend to think,
  • "they?re going to think that their god is bigger than you"

So he's acknowledging that there are other gods. Whoops.
