I don't know why this bothers me, but it does. When my husband smells things, he actually touches his nose to them and takes a big whiff. While this may be okay when he is smelling a flower or a freshly laundered towel, it is not okay most of the time. In fact the reason he is smelling said object is usually because he is checking to see if smells bad. I have a guy friend at work who does the same thing. Is it a guy thing or just a "guys I know" thing?
Here are some of the more annoying examples:
Kitchen sponge to see if it is still good or needs to be thrown out.
Clothes to see if they are clean or dirty (do you really want to cover your nose and mouth with that sweat sock to decide if it needs to be washed or not?)
Milk - his nose actually touches the mouth of the jug.
Bread to see if it is still fresh. I consider myself very lucky that the worst thing my husband does is touch things to his nose when he smells them. I just find it pretty gross when I say "this bread smells funny" and he takes the slice, puts his nose on it, says it smells fine and hands it back.
One day at Walmart he opened up the door of the big metal case with the fresh baked bread in it and took a whiff. He didn't touch his nose to anything, but there was all the bread with the ends sticking out of their paper bags and he sticks his face right next to them and inhales.... several times, which means he exhaled several times, too. Who does that?
