WKRP

in Cincinnati. So Mr. Mod, that's him below, will probably be staying in Cincinnati 4 days a week for the next couple of months. I think Kristen & Babbs live around there. He would like general recs of "stuff to do".

Thank you!

Re: WKRP

  • Skyline Chili!!  I also know there are riverboats if he likes gambling.  That is about my knowledge of Cincinnati, besides where all the campaign offices are.
  • I am not helpful but I love that picture.

For less then ten cents a day, you can feed a hungry child.
  • Kings Island if he likes amusement parks.

Kristen always seems to be making a yummy dinner, so if I ever get to Cincinnati again I'm inviting myself to her house.

  • If it were me, I'd have him stay there one weekend and go join him and do the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.  But, I like bourbon.  A lot.

  • You got it! Will he be downtown? You should come with!  :-) If he wants to meet up, Mike and I will gladly show him around the Queen City.

For food, the "famous" Cincinnati places are Skyline Chili, Montgomery Inn (BBQ ribs), Greater's (french pot ice cream). He should also try goetta, it's a bastardized German breakfast food made of oats and sausage, served in patty or link form. It's strange, but good!

The Hofbrauhaus in Newport (just over the river from Cincinnati) is a fun spot for good German beer.

Other good restaurants are Nada, any of the Jeff Ruby restaurants for a steak, Riverside Korean in Covington (also just across the river in Kentucky), Via Vite is supposed to be good, Honey, Slim's, Izzy's is a classic Cincinnati Jewish sandwich shop.. I'm sure I'll think of more.

Sightseeing, I recommend the Contemporary Arts Center., the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center is worth a stop, Fountain Square downtown.

We have a couple decent art museums (the Taft Museum of Art is small but neat, Cincinnati Art Museum is the big one) if he likes that sort of thing. We have lots of beautiful parks and trails-- Eden Park has beautiful views of the city and that's where the museum is located.

Mt. Adams is a cool neighborhood up on a hill (big by Cincinnati standards, we're a pretty flat state you know) with great views, good restaurants and bars.Hyde Park is an old Cincinnati money part of town and has a cute little business district and square.

In Kentucky, Covington and Newport are the two cities just across the river from downtown Cincinnati. There's lots of bars & restaurants (smoking is still allowed indoors in KY so beware of that...), historic homes, shops etc.

If he likes sports, the Reds are doing well this year so their games are pretty fun.

  • Kristen, he is staying downtown and appreciates the list. Depending on what the travel turns out to be, I may come out & spend some time with him and would love to meet you and your family.

Lindsay, He says "now you're talkin"

  • Oh, and if he's here in the fall, he should take a day trip to Keeneland in Lexington to see the horse races. It's about 1.5 hours from Cincy. The  fall meet starts October 8 and is something to see if you're going to be near the Bluegrass state. Also the World Equestrian Games are in Kentucky in September and I guess they are a sight to see.

  • dammit, that jingle is now stuck in my head. Loni had the best outfits.
  • For food, the "famous" Cincinnati places are Skyline Chili, Montgomery Inn (BBQ ribs), Greater's (french pot ice cream). I agree. Especially with Montogmery Inn. Delish!

The Hofbrauhaus in Newport (just over the river from Cincinnati) is a fun spot for good German beer. Love the Hofbrauhaus! Yummy food, great beer and there are a ton of other different places within walking distance down in Newport.

If he likes steak he could always go this steakhouse.  http://www.boinabraza.com If he eats meat and has a hearty appitite it's worth the price.

  • WKRP had the best Thanksgiving episode ever. "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly."

  • If he likes ice cream, I second Graeter's.  It is the best ice cream I have ever had!  The black raspberry chip is to die for!!  Mmmmmmm!

  • Um guys, Bo Derek doesn't play for the Reds. It's baseball, not softball. He recorded some awful rendition of god bless america that they play on Fox Sports during Sunday games.
