Weight loss goal...

Warning: major vent!!

I feel like giving up. 4 weeks of working out at least 4 times a week, varying the workout with cardio and interval training and a little strength training. And I've GAINED 2 pounds. (And no, I don't believe I've gained any muscle, I dunno). I know I can clean up my diet a *little* bit, but it's freaking 110+ degrees with humidity and having some ice cream a couple times a week is a great treat! But nooo, with my dammn body I have to abstain from ANY sweets, junk food, fast food, stay low card, etc or I blow up. I can waiver at ALL and I'm NOT exaggerated. Boo. I'm soooo friggin' jealous right now of the biatches who can eat whatever they want and stay thin!!! SERIOUSLY?!?! I'm so frustrated. I'm actually STICKING WITH the exercising and seeing NOTHING. I strongly dislike parts of my body right now but God apparently thinks it's funny to let me stay chubby regardless of working hard. Argh.

P.S. If you're one of those girls who can eat whatever they want, do NOT post on my thread. Or else expect me to rip you a new one. Just giving fair warning.  :) Peace out.

Re: Weight loss goal...

  • i am definitely not one of those girls who can eat anything and stay thin. and for my height, 2 lbs looks like 10. i've been slowly but surely gaining weight since the wedding and H has been kind enough to remind me all the time. *rolls eyes*

i feel you with working so hard and not seeing any results. i was running 3 miles a day, everyday before the wedding AND eating small healthy meals- i still didn't lose all the weight i wanted to. BUT i did see a huge increase in my physical stamina. i was able to hike for 5 hours easily and now i can barely make it 2. :( so maybe think of it less of "how much weight can i lose", and more of "how much better can i make my life". just think, you're adding years to the lifetime that you and your hubby will spend growing old (and not in walkers) together. :) think of the long term, not the short, and you'll realize that dieting/working out is more of a lifestyle change that a short term fix. :)

ETA: i have a hard time listening to myself, so don't think i go out running because i enjoy it. lol.

  • Ugh, I have always been envious of those who can eat whatever they want and never gain an ounce.  If I have two glasses of wine it will totally put my diet into a tailspin and I'm back to square one.  I've gained about 5 lbs since the wedding but it feels like 20.  I have to totally watch my diet and work out at least an hour each day just to be able to enjoy a brownie or a few beers once a week and it not totally ruin all my hard work.  But I must admit that I have been super lazy and not going to the gym or eating like I was before the wedding so as of tomorrow I'm going to try to get back into it again.  Once I'm in a groove it's not that bad but getting over that hump to get started and seeing results can be tough.

Stick with it ladies, we can do this!

  • Ugh, I've gained 10lbs since the wedding, and I feel swollen everywhere. I have no desire to eat healthy OR to work out right now. It's summertime, we wanna drink beer and go out to eat and enjoy ourselves. BUT, considering I used to weigh 40lbs more than what I do right now...I get terrified when the scale goes to an uncomfortable place - and it's getting there.

Our refrigerator just went out, so we've been eating OUT for all meals, and you can imagine how healthy THAT has been; sadly, eating unhealthy seems to be the only way we could possibly afford to eat out each meal.

I will tell you this - if you have the dedication, try P90x. It works amazingly - so long as you do it faithfully and follow the meal plan. I swear to god, I only feel my best when we do it...and when we eat healthy. We're going to try Insanity very soon, and I'm looking forward to that...and getting fit and healthy.

Don't worry too much. I kid you not, after the first 3 weeks of doing P90x (faithfully) I too gained 2lbs. and my H (then fiance) lost like 6lbs. but I def felt a difference in my body/clothes. Go by that...and don't forget to measure yourself! That's the real way to know. Weight can fluctuate with water weight and lots of people can lose 5lbs in 2 weeks, but much of it is water weight.

Don't be too hard on yourself - you've got a friend in me in this arena so we can certainly support one another! :)

  • I feel you girls.  Kthame- I'm the same way about the scale for the same reason.

We've just been so friggin busy lately, and visiting or going out with friends and family doesn't help.  The one bright spot is that it's too hot to wear jeans, so I don't have to deal with that frustration right away...

  • Obviously, I gained weight at the wedding/on the honeymoon. Remember my FFW about everyone saying I look pregnant? Yeah..

Z, Just remember that once you start working out you may GAIN weight because you're toning and muscle weighs more than fat (you may not SEE the muscle you're gainng right away.) Really, the "losing pounds" thing discourages people because they do gain muscle, which adds weight. I would focus more on the way your clothes fit or the firmer parts of your body get.

Also, I've read that if you obstain from all sweets, it's actually worse because when you do let yourself it a sweet, most over indulge. Treat yourself every once in awhile!

Just keep at it you can do it. :)

  • I am definitely not one of those girls who stays skinny no matter what I eat. I work out as well, but still have problem areas like my tummy/abs. I have been switching my work out up as well, but can't see a ton of difference although sometimes my shorts do fit looser than during the HM & right after. I know I gained about 5 lbs on the HM as well.

    Keep at it girls.

  • Girlie I feel you.

I have gained about 7 lbs since the wedding. Most of it was on the honeymoon, which I don't get because we were always active. Yes we ate a lot, but it wasn't bad food, it was all healthy.

Since the wedding, I have definitely been eating more, and just being piggy in general. I have had no time to workout, which was the same as pre-wedding. But I really need to start workin out. I feel gross, and I want to lose that weight I put on. On the wedding day, I was the thinnest I have been since highschool and was actually at my highschool weight. From the time I graduated college until then I had lost 50 lbs. So I know I REALLY have to watch it, because I love being thinner.

I am not a diet type person though. I do horrible on diets, and usually end up gaining weight, so im trying not to obsess, because the more I obsess the more weight I will gain. I love to eat sweets and have horrible self control. Not that I pig out on sweets (usually) but I like to have something everyday that is a treat. But lately, I have been doing more than just a small treat, which I need to STOP!!!

It doesn't help that we are bad financially right now, so we can't buy tons of the healthy foods that we want too.

I just need to get motivated to work out. I am going to start walking next week 4 days a week, and I love long walks, so hopefully that will get me back into the getting fit spirit.

Don't let your results get you down. Sometimes it takes awhile for your body to adjust, and it may just be doing that. I would try maybe just walking rather than all the cardio, to see if that helps. But still doing the weight training. Switch it up a bit. Do you swim?? If you do, that would really help you drop the weight. I so want to start swimming again, but im having major ear issues right now, so im scared too.

  • I definitely gained about 5 pounds since the wedding...not good! And my diet did change a little after the honeymoon, but not drastically. I've been keeping up with my workouts so I'm unsure as to why this is happening!
  • Wow, there's strength in numbers.. I feel a little less of my pity party knowing I'm not the only lady with this problem! I'm continuing to work out and 'hope' it's just building muscle. ..... OK, I just went and tried on those jeans I wore when I went camping that didn't fit (and honestly couldnt even button! LOL Yay for big sweatshirts that cover the waist) and they're definitely still way tight, but I WAS able to button them. Good sign I hope? Too bad I wanna get to the next size down jeans that are sitting in my closet!

juju - I was going "Yup!" and nodding as I read through your post. :) I too, weighed less than I did in HS at my wedding (still do actually), and lost about 50 lbs since just after HS time (freshman in college). I also don't/can't diet. I've done a LOT of dietary changes, but they're LIFE changes, NOT restrictive diets! But we *have* been slacking on our fresh vegetable juicing, which I know helps me a lot. And I getcha on the fianancial stuff! Do you have any farmer's markets near you or anywhere that might have discount produce? We found a couple places by us that we can get most of our fruits/veggies at a lower price than the grocery store, so that's helped us use fresh produce more without breaking the bank. Oh also, I wish I could swim! There's nowhere I can around here. No money to join a club that has a pool, and although we've been debating putting on it at our place, it would be at least a couple months til that's complete (once we do a few estimates/quotes to figure out if it's feasible), so although I know it's GREAT exercise, I can't. I use the mini-trampoline, and biking mostly. It's too hot to walk right now (stays close to 100 even at 9pm, and it's just too murderously hot to be outside for 45 minutes), but I can "walk" on the mini-tramp. Oh, and with your ear problems, could you just put ear plugs/wax in them? (My big bro had to do that when we were kids cuz he had tubes in his ears) It will protect them from getting any water in them. Just a thought!

  • Zora- So sorry your having a hard time like this. I definitly know how you feel. I am one of those people who all they have to do is look at a cookie and I gain 5 lbs. Its not funny. It is very frustrating when your doing all you can. I was working out hardcore and eating great for a month. Yes, I prob gained muscle because it was alot of lifting weights ( a program similar to p90x) and I gained like 5 lbs. I know it was prob alot of muscle but it still made me so irritated.

Just making sure but have you ever had your thyroid checked? I have a low thryoid which causes me to gain weight and not be able to lose it unless I take medicine for it.

  • I feel your pain!  I totally fell off the wagon after the wedding.  I went to the gym for the first time in a month last week and man, that was NOT fun.  Just keep at it - it takes a long time to see results on the scale.  I usually go by the way my clothes fit rather than what the scale says cause pps are right, you WILL gain muscle weight.

  • I blame my husband for my weight gain.  I used to eat wine and cheese for dinner.  Now that we are married and he isn't working nights I'm having too many casseroles and desserts, gah!

Z are you mixing up your workouts.  I *admittedly* don't work out anymore but I used to a lot and when I did, I had to change up my workout every couple months because my body got used to it and I wouldn't see the same results.  But when I switched it up I was working and new muscles and would feel it again.
