landscaping fail this weekend--anyone have retaining walls built recently?
Has anyone gotten any retaining walls or paver work done? I have someone coming to give me an estimate tonight but have not idea what these kind of thing cost. We have all the supplies we just need someone to do the work for us. The wall is less than 2 feet tall but is 39 feet long. DH and I tried to build it ourselves this weekend and it did not go well. Since it wasn't a super high wall and DH had done some work like this before we though we would be able to do it---we were wrong. We could not get the block level. Now my yard looks like this, I told DH at least we knew when to stop and call in a professional....

Re: landscaping fail this weekend--anyone have retaining walls built recently?
Ok, I actually was able to get DH on aim for a few seconds at work and this is what he said (I don't know if you've tried this or not):
well, depending on the size of the wall... but generally speaking they should have drainage rock under neath the wall....usually use was is called "2B" stone which is like a rock the size of like a quarter.....
then you can beat the top of the stone with a rubber mallet on the corners that need to sync down in deeper to get level....
but for even finer tweaking they can add finer rock ontop of that yet called "anti-skid" on top of the drainage rock i mean
and people use sand to get pavers to level out.... so if this is just a small wall for like around a flower bed they can maybe use sand for finer tweaking
two feet i'd probably use 2b stone just for drainage sake even.....but def just a rubber mallet, cuz you can hit it fairly hard without cracking the stone
OR if they need to really hit it can to level it, lay like a piece of like 2x4 wood ontop of the stone, and hit the wood with an actual hammer
leveling is the hardest part of building the wall... and should spend time doing it....once that first layer is level it's fairly easy from there on out, because you're just adding layers to the top
Sorry about the choppiness I literally copy and pasted what he sent me. DH said he doesn't know the names of anyone who could do it because he doesn't know many landscapers.
