Thank you ladies for your words of encouragement from my "Completely Bummed" post from Friday afternoon. Things got worse before they got better. But they started going right at about 5:30 yesterday afternoon.
BTW - HH is out at the golf course getting pictures this morning, so I'm here with some "me" time in the midst of this all baseball weekend...thank goodness!
After the flight was cancelled, we couldn't get out of town until Sat morning. So we had to leave the house by 5 am for the airport...ugh! I set the alarm for 4:00 and headed to bed at 8:30. At 1:45 am, the power went out and both of us woke up. And neither slept well after that. The alarm goes of at 4 am and it's still dark. So HH found every candle we own and put them all in one of my pyrex baking dishes and lit them up for light in the bedroom so I could do final packing. He's my hero!
We manage to make it to Binghamton in time for HH to run off the plane to the cab that we have waiting to speed him to the Enterprise branch before they closed at noon. When Matt got there, they gave us a Dodge Charger for our "premium" reservation. Ummmm...no. We just rented one of those from Enterprise as a full-size when we went to a wedding in May! So we kinda got screwed on that (for now), but we have a Charger and look good, even if it's not the Chrysler 300 or Buick Lucerne that we were supposed to get. It's a splurge that Matt insisted we make because I love the Chrysler 300 and there was a good chance that we would get one at this branch.
Fast forward to 5 hours later, after we've had lunch, driven to Cooperstown, checked into our hotel, and finally made it to the trolley that shuttles you into Main Street. It's 5:15 when we get dropped off at the Hall of Fame. We've got 45 minutes before the parade starts so we're going to check things out in the HOF and pick up our tickets for today's induction ceremony, along with our parking pass (that we paid $50 for). We get stopped and are told that the HOF is closed...as of 5:00! I tell the woman that we have to have our parking pass for tomorrow, is there anything she can do? She goes in, comes out and says "there's no one there for me to get help."
I start crying. I tell her "we've been through hell to get here today and were supposed to be here several hours ago but just arrived because our flight was cancelled last night. All of our tickets for Sunday's activities are in the HOF. Please, I just need something to go right today." She left and came back about 30 minutes later with a young man that had an envelope with Matt's name on it that included our parking pass, our induction ceremony tickets, and our tickets for Monday's round table discussion with all 3 inductees...yay!!!!! She is now my hero! I should've hugged her but she walked away while I was talking to the guy and I never found her again.
All is right in our honeymoon world today. It took a lot tears & frustration, but we'll have some good stories to tell when we look back as the years go by. I got some pics posted on FB this morning. There will be many more after today.
I hope everyone is having a great weekend!!
Re: Whew! HM Update...Long
That is exactly what we're doing today. We really enjoyed ourselves once the parade started and all the rest of the stuff just kind of faded into the background of our memory. Today is a new day and we are going to have so much fun!!!
You have exactly the right attitude to have an amazing honeymoon - put the negative stuff in your distant memory and enjoy the fact that everything is going to go right from now on!!! And way to rock the tears to get what you needed, that is an underutilized ploy. I have had to do that a time or two in my past and it has worked wonders, haha! I find that being really nice and playing on people's sympathies typically gets you pretty far in a situation that might otherwise seem hopeless.
I can't wait to see pics of this trip!
Enjoy your me time, wooo!
You've heard what I've done, not what I've been through.
If you were in my shoes, you'd fall the first step."
Sounds like an adventure. UGH but I hope you had a great time will look at pics next time I get on FB. Wooohooo I remember when you originally bought these tickets. How excited you were!
