Tempted....

Someone just posted on our work email that their neighbor is in need of a nanny.  Huge house (I know the neighborhood) next to a golf course....20 hours a week...2 little girls, a three and four year old, and excellent pay....

SO is it bad that I am actually tempted by this and want to quit my job and be a nanny?  Embarrassed

Re: Tempted....

  • And PS:  Munkii and Jlk, I'm really sorry about your dad and your grandpa.  Munkii I hope his surgery goes well and Jlk I hope your Grandpa gets better soon!
  • Why is a change so bad?  If it feels right, go for eeeeeeeeetttt!!!
    Matt loves Munkii!!!
  • Why is change so bad?  I'm just really sick of my job....very bored...I know I should be thankful that I have a job which I am.  I'm just bored....feel like I'm wasting away in the supply closet aka my office...
  • Can I be a nanny's helper? Do they have those? Then we could just go for walks and eat greek salads every day?

SWEEEEEET!  We could tag team!  Oh long walk and endless greek salads.....that sounds amazing....  Big Smile

I "jokingly" mentioned it to DH over lunch just to see what he would say and he was all for it.  Then he texted me after lunch and told me to contact the lady and get details.  This is so random... Ick!

    No.....he is a terrible bluffer....

  • I just called the lady and left a message... Ick!  I'm insane! lol...
  • Get all of the details and maybe even things put down in writing with the mother and father of the children.  If it looks good and will bring you happiness, then do it!!

  • One other thing... meet the children and see how you "click" with them.  Ask the parents about their values and rules on raising their children.  Make sure all of that jives with you.  It would be hard to be a nanny to out of control kids or kids with parents that didn't have established rules and values they live by.

  • I dont' think it is bad at all!  My sister who is going to be selling her Chicago house here shortly and moving back home has decided she's fed up with medical sales and wants to open a bridal shop.  If it is going to make you happy, embrace it!  I agree with nicole though, make sure that everything "fits" for you or else you'll end up unhappy with it.

One of my co-workers at my PT job is putting herself through college on being a nanny 20some hours a week plus a few retail shifts.  She loves it!

  • LOL...I just told my mom and she thinks I'm having a mid life crisis....
  • I would totally be tempted if I were you! If you don't need your job for insurance purposes (or other things that likely wouldn't come with a nannying gig) there is nothing wrong with checking it out.

If you click with the family and the money is enough for you and DH, go for it if it will make you happy! Life is too short to be anything but happy, that is for sure :).

  • If it would make you happier, do it.  But... what happens in a few years when those kids start going to school?  Would you be able to find new new family to keep the career going?

  • Okay ladies when I got home from work I went to the mall to "think".....I really need a change if I am actually considering this position.  In all honesty, I am not the nanny type.  I have been applying for jobs here and there recently (and turned another job down), but if this is how I am feeling...I REALLY need to be serious about finding a new job.  My photography thing is what I ultimately want to do....but until I can do that "full-time" I need to make a change,  I will not be a nanny....but I did just apply for an Academic Advisor position at a local University.  I'm going to continue looking/applying for jobs BUT ONLY jobs that are a good fit for me, will be more challenging than what I currently do, and just be more pleasant in general.  And after talking to my mom who watches way too many Lifetime movies about nannies and controlling husbands and crazy wives....it was a good laugh.  Thanks for listening to my random butt and being so supportive!  Next week when I decide to join the circus or become a lumberjack, just tell me to shut up and stop whining... Stick out tongue
  • Haha. It was a fun ride! But seriously, if you came to the realization how desperate you are to leave your current employer, than this bout of the crazies was worth it. Good luck with the job search/applications.

I agree with this.  And if this works out, I say go for it, and use your extra hours for more photography!!!
