H thinks that our house is haunted or something. He has heard a child say "daddy?" twice at 2-3am while he was up going to the bathroom. He said he even turned on the light thinking it was Bentley--but B was asleep in his room. He said it was clear as day and he was not asleep.
Second, he hears things in the attic--he said it sounds like someone is walking up there. Also, his thermostat gets turned up--and we aren't doing it. We set it at 74, and we will come back and it's 76/8. They're just normal thermostats, and the one on the other side of the house doesn't do this.
Last...the light comes on while he's sleeping. He wakes up and the overhead light is on. Obviously he goes to sleep with it off. I slept in his room while he was gone and it did it to me too. I woke up around 2:30am, and the light was on. I reached over and turned it off with the fan remote (which was on the night stand where I had to lean to reach it). About thirty minutes later, the light turned on again.
Another random thing--I went out of town yesterday and stayed with my parents. I made sure all of the lights were off, and the thermostat was up before I left. When I came home, (I had set my alarm, no one knows the code because it's new) Bentley's bathroom light was on, our master bedroom light was on, and my light over the toilet in the master was on.
I haven't ever really experienced anything besides the light issue. But now that I'm thinking about it, I'm starting to wonder WTF is going on. Thoughts?
Re: Can we talk about ghosts for a minute?
To start off rational, since it's a new house, are there any settings you might not know about? Or maybe a flaw in the electrical wiring? Every new house I have lived in has a few kinks that need to be worked out in the beginning. Okay now that I was a normal, rational person for minute let me talk about ghosts. I completely believe in ghosts. I haven't encountered any angry or mean ghosts. Just the nice kind so they don't really bother me. I think all of our ghosts are just family members that have passed. Yes, I sound completely crazy. I am aware. I know of a really amazing pyshcic that would be able to tell you what is going on if you really think it might be ghosts. She has told my family and me some crazy things about all of our deceased family members(a majority of my family has died) that no one should be able to know. Even if you're not a believer, she does psychic parties and it's a really fun and different kind of get-together to have and maybe you could get some questions answered about what is going on.
I definitely believe in ghosts. Your light issues could be electrical, if your house is older, but the other stuff is pretty freaky.
My cousins and I all think that our great aunt's house is haunted. We all hated staying there when we were little and always felt like someone was watching us especially when we were up stairs. We never talked about it then and just since we became adults shared our experiences. They built their house, but we think it must have been built over something because of all of our experiences.

Holy sh!t... I think my parents house is haunted but I also believe it is my little brother so it doesn't bother me too much.
I would be a bit freaked out but I would also try to talk to them.
BTW, I totally have chills down my spine and tears in my eyes after reading this. lol
What direction are the light switches? Usually up is on and down is off. Is the light switch actually moving into the "on" position?
I want to say that I replaced a light switch shortly after moving into our house because it was doing weird things.
Here is my experience.
Growing up, weird things never really happened, except for one night when a friend and I used a Oijua (sp?) board. The thing told us a spirit was in the house, its name was Sutwa, and when we asked for its location it didn't answer and then my cat pushed open the doors (I didn't have "real" doors in my room growing up). That night, I awoke around 2am to some weird metal-clanking sounds, like spoons in a drawer. No one was awake but me as I went through our tiny house.
Nothing weird happened in my apartment with my sister.
I had a lot of night terrors when I moved in with H downtown. Not nightmares, night terrors. As soon as I would fall asleep, I would think there were huge spiders or snakes literally raining down on me. I also would sleepwalk a lot.
After we moved into our current home, it stopped happening. Night terror free since October 2009. The nightmares I had the other night were almost welcome because they seemed so "normal" compared to the terrors I would have.
The building I work in was built in the '20s. One evening, before an orchestra concert, the orch. director and I were looking for the matching set of chairs for the stage. We got the janitor to unlock the small gym girls locker room, where the chairs were normally stored. The lights didn't work (of course). We both stepped into the shower area, and both of us at the same time got the same weird chill and feeling that we shouldn't have been there and that we should leave immediately. He was 24. I was 28. Not children. We ran out, screaming, swearing never to go back, and we never have. The chairs weren't there. I have also experienced strange noises in the empty auditorium at night. So have other teachers. We don't talk about it much.
I believe that weird things happen, for sure. I'm not a huge believer in God, Satan, or religion, but weird things definitely happen. They do not happen in my current home. They happen where I work. If you could ask my students, they would corroborate my stories.
Replace the switches for peace of mind.
I would set up a camera or something... lol But then you might get "Paranormal Activity"-worthy results and I'd be out of that house in a hot second.
My bridesmaid Katie and I lived on the bottom floor of the oldest house in Stillwater our senior year at OSU. I had the back bedroom, which was connected to hers and then she had access to the living room by a pair of french doors (weird I know). Anyway, I always felt as though the house was haunted (just that creepy feeling like you're not alone) and I was telling her one day right before graduation that I was not going to miss this house because I had a hard time sleeping at night. She then told me that a couple of months before that she was laying in bed sleeping and jolted up for no reason, she looked at the french doors and they were wide open (they were obviously closed when she went to sleep.) She laid back down on her side, but then opened her eyes, and at the foot of her bed stood a college-aged guy. She said he was looking at her for a second, and then he said "Come on! Aren't you coming to the party?" and waved for her, then walked out the doors. She said he was dressed in 80s preppy clothes with a comb-over. She also saw him one night around dinner time. She had just made food in the kitchen and was walking to the living room to eat when she heard the wood floors creak behind her and she turned around just to see him rounding the corner into the kitchen.
It happened in like March and she told me in MAY. I would have flipped the hell out and burst into my room THAT NIGHT if I were her. Goodness!
I would find it hard to believe that your house is haunted though BoyMom, seeing as how it's brand new. I would just call an electrical guy or an inspector to check things out.
Holy effing crap.
Alright, this sounds familiar to me.
One of my coworkers' friends was having the same issue in her brand new house. She would also come home after work and things were obviously moved around and she thought she was going crazy.
She didn't have ghosts, though.
Her builder had given the keys to her house to allow his illegal alien workers to LIVE IN HER ATTIC. While she was at work or asleep they were ROAMING AROUND HER HOUSE AND EATING HER FOOD.
I sh!t you not. Check your attic.
What the eff?!?! That is TERRIBLE!!!!
All this ghost talk is freaking me the fvck out!!!
THAT IS INSANE!!!!
I would be SO pissed--there'd be an exchange of words, that's for sure! I am quite sure there is no one in the attic--it is SO hot up there and I've been up there quite a few times to put things into storage. Haven't seen any signs of life
. You can only get to the attic by going upstairs, so they'd have to be pretty darn sneaky to get away with that. WOW. I cannot believe a builder would do that!!
The rational side in me is coming out today--there is a possibility I missed a couple of lights on my way out the door. The electrical wiring could be off in the master, so I called my builder this morning to have the electrician come back out and look at it. It's one of those fans that you use a remote to turn on, so it very well could be an issue with the fan/remote connection. In that case, I'll just replace the fan if it means weird crap stops happening!
Kap--the light switch is in the "on" position at all times because of the remote use. I have to use the remote to activate the light or fan. Which I think sucks, but what can you do. Tyler likes it.
I even went in there last night and said out loud, okay, if someone is in here, turn on the light. Nothing happened. Don't you think I'd get some kinda response? Some freaky paranormal activity?
JLimberg-I am NOT setting up cameras! hahaha! I am just going to tell Tyler he's hearing crap. I hope he is, at least!
Okay, this is all coming from the person [nerd] who believes in ghosts, has seen ghosts, and has done some research on ghosts.
First, while it's not "common" to have ghosts in a new house, it's certainly not impossible. There are many instances of new houses being haunted, whether it has something to do with the space the house was built on, or whether a spirit has attached itself to a person living in that house. Or if someone "invited" the spirit in, which can happen via Ouija board, thus why it is generally not recommended that you use one because they only bring bad news.
Definitely check the wiring and make sure that is kosher (and check your attic to make sure illegals aren't living there...). If everything turns out fine and you're still having unexplained things going on, well...
If Tyler is hearing someone say the word "Daddy," chances are it's a child spirit, which means it's likely harmless. But to be safe, keep an eye out on B. And if anything more sinister than lights going on and off happens, then you might have to call someone about it.

My neighbor Crystal thinks that the ghost came in because I have antiques everywhere. The table in the dining room and my mantle are both new to the house--didn't have them in Moore. I'm wondering if there's something with that. Who would you call about a spirit/ghost in your house!?
Ghost Busters.
Hehe. The thing with the furniture is entirely possible too. I've heard they can attach themselves to various pieces of furniture and stuff.
There are various groups that will do investigations in your house for free if you feel the "activity" is bad. I know of several in the area. If it's non-threatening, they would just tell you to deal with it pretty much. If it's causing any kind of harm or seems malevolent, then they would probably call a priest or other holy person to get rid of it.
I feel weird/slightly creepy that I know about this kind of stuff.

Totally creeps me out! Have you seen the new preview foe the second Paranormal Activity coming out? Where it takes place in their baby's room? I had my eyes covered for this.
I don't think you have a haunted house. Although the antiques kind of makes sense for me. Hopefully just having the electrical looked at will fix everything.
I don't really believe in ghosts or anything like that. But my sister and my dad have said that they recently seen an older man standing in their backyard. (This is in the house I grew up in) Really creeps me out to think about it.
yeah, seriously. me too.
One night I was leaving the church I went to in college and I looked inside and the lights were flickering on and off. I was not the only one to experience something weird like that.
My H and his family lived in Maryland for a while. They were driving home in a blizzard and got lost. They ended up driving right through Gettysburg. They heard noises and rolled down their windows. They said they heard noises like cannons and a battle and it was really creepy.
I would have SHAT my pants. Straight up.
What do you mean that's the wrong side? Tastes great to me!
