So HH and I have decided....
Re: So HH and I have decided....
are ya'll seriously considering moving?
I'm in Northern Virginia. Granted, it's been hot this month. It's been hot every where. BUT we love our home town. Absolutely love it. We're about 2 hours south of Washington DC and about an hour and a half north of Richmond. It's a fabulous location... very close to lots of historic civil war battlefields... and of course historic DC.
I could go on and on. We love it.

This. I b!tch about it being so hot and humid here, but I would MUCH rather deal with the heat than the cold. I hate being cold. We went to Illinois for Christmas one year and I thought I was going to die..... literally.
This winter was completely wretched here. I spent a lot of time googling addiction treatment centers in the Caribbean and sending the links to Matt with captions like "You could work here! I would freelance index from home."
Lucky me! Can't wait for the winter... I'll be begging for FL by the time Jan rolls around!
I bet you're super close to me!

Its been in the high 90's here in WV which is actually pretty hot for around here. We're usually in the high 80's low 90's. During the winter it can get down in the teens but its usually in the 30-40 degree range. I love it here though, especially during the fall when all the leaves have changed and the mountains are red, yellow, and orange!
I forgot you were in Illinois!! Chicago area, right? And where we were was even further South than that! We were in this itty bitty town... Nokomis. Adam has a bunch of family there.
Don't forget the coleslaw. http://www.primantibrothers.com/
Darn it. Now I'm starving, want Primanti's, and am still broke.
MrsMaldo - are you in Charlottesville? Is your HH Army? That is on our list of places that we wouldn't mind going next.
Becky - We've been in Northern VA (Alexandria/Arlington) for 2.5yrs and hate it, we can't wait to leave and were completely bummed when HH got extended here a year, now we have to stay until the end of 2012. It seems like people either like it or hate it, there's not much of an in between.
I will say that it seems like when you go south to about Fredericksburg things seem to get a lot better. It becomes more of a "small town/country" feel and it makes a huge difference in all of the things I mentioned. You can be close enough to DC without actually living in it but will still deal with traffic to get here. There's a lot to do in DC and it has a lot of history (obviously). If you're not into museums, art, history, etc. and the only thing you want to see are the monuments ... there are only so many times you can do that and trust me, you will do it every time you have out of town guests.
If the Army told HH we were leaving tomorrow, I'd start packing immediately! Come on end of 2012!!

Hubby and I are both from Western PA, but are living in Richmond now....would give anything to move back to PA - exactly for the reasons you stated...OMG what I wouldn't give for a steak salad with french fries on top! I know we'll end up back up there at some point, but him finding a teaching job is next to impossible, so we're gonna wait it out awhile :-) So, enjoy it for me, will you? Oh, and I have to tell you, i was in Orlando last week and had on my "Got Six?" shirt and was amazed at how many people commented on it......one benefit to being a Steeler fan not living in Western PA is that people seem to have even more pride in being Steeler fans :-) and a Quaker Steak and Lube just opened up a mile or so down the road, so I'm so excited to go watch some football there this fall...should be lots of terrible towels flyin!
I'm in Richmond and it's been hot as hell lately! While I was in Orlando last week, it was actually cooler there than here in Richmond - insane! When we got home on Friday it was 107, and my car said 109 on Saturday at 6:00 in the evening. I'm hoping the streak of hot weather has passed - it was only 88 today - now we just need some serious rain!
I loved summers growing up in western PA...pretty warm with usually a few hot days, but 95 was considered hot. But yes, those winters could get cold, but you just get used to it :-)
I would never, ever, ever, EVER want to live that close to DC! Alexandria is such a pit! My dad's family is from there and I'm thrilled I never have to be forced there again!!!!!
I went to school in Fredericksburg and it's a MUCH better area for sure!!!!!!!!
