Hi Ladies. I've been lurking a bit the past few days from my iphone but am just now able to get caught up on everything here and to post. We are back home from our trip to Estes Park, CO. We were there for my cousin's wedding. It is so gorgeous out there! Perfect weather, cute little town, beautiful nature, fun family time, elk in the front yard of our rental house. The rehearsal dinner was at a lodge that looks like it came right out of Dirty Dancing. The wedding was at The Stanley Hotel. It was one of the prettiest, coolest weddings I have ever been to and was such a special day.
But...the whole trip was overshadowed for DH and me by the loss of the diamond on my e-ring. And it wasn't just the diamond, it was the actual setting/prongs holding the diamond that broke off of the main ring/setting. Here's a stock pic of my ring. The center of the ring was only secured in one small spot (I had no idea!) and is now completely gone - diamond and all...
I know my ring was still perfect on the flight into Denver. I remember looking down at it while holding the book I was reading. We got off the plane, went through baggage claim, hopped a shuttle bus to the car rental place, registered for our car. And as we were walking around the car checking for dents with the car rental guy, my right hand touching something that felt strange on my left hand and surprised me. I looked down at my hand and started squealing "oh my god! oh my god! oh my god!". DH said that the last thing he expected me to say was "my diamond is gone!!!" I went into total shock, shaking and crying hysterically. DH was trying to stay calm and was running around the registry desk, parking lot and rental car, rummaging through our luggage. The staff was looking everywhere too and called back the shuttle bus. No luck...who knows where it actually broke off - airplane, airport, shuttle, walking in between - or what caused it to snap. We finally had to give up and start the drive from Denver to Estes Park. I cried the whole 1.5 hour drive. It was hard, but I had to put aside all the emotions I was feeling, keep it on the down-low and put on a happy face (for four days!) since I was surrounded by family, a wonderful bride & groom and fabulous wedding festivities.
DH said it would probably have happened sooner or later because there is obviously a flaw with the making of the ring. But, I feel like it if had happened in STL in my daily life, I could have retraced my steps and my chances of finding it would have been better. It's impossible to retrace when traveling.
To top it all off, we were waiting to put the ring on our homeowners insurance when we bought a house. Our house buying has been a stop and go process for two years now so we never got around to insuring the e-ring. I am calling the jeweler this afternoon to tell them what happened and we will take it in there this weekend. I don't know if this is something they will cover all or a part of since we really think there was a flaw with the crafstmanship of the ring. Keep your fingers crossed that the jeweler will help us out on this somehow. DH had paid for the ring in full using some of his long term savings for a new car which makes me want to cry again just thinking about - he is so, so sweet. At least we are not making payments on a diamond that is probably either at pawn shop somewhere in Colorado or a floor sweeper in the Denver airport
My advice of the day to you: Insure your engagement ring and wedding band...and think twice about traveling with cherished jewelry.
I remember reading about something similar happening to someone on the DW board quite a while back. I remember thinking how terribly sad. But you don't realize how sad it really is and all the emotions you feel until it happens to you. It doesn't seem real and I am still so shocked that it happened ![]()
Thanks for "listening" to my sad ramblings.
Re: Lost E-ring Diamond
Wow Danielle... that just... sucks. Sucks so bad. I'm sorry! I have no idea how all this stuff works, but it seems like since there was obviously a flaw in the craftsmanship that the jeweler should do something. They really don't want word out there that one of their rings just... broke, and that on top of that they were a-holes about it. ((hugs)) & ::vibes:: for you!
OMG! I'm so sorry Danielle! That's awful! I had a diamond fall of my wedding band, but was lucky enough to realize it the exact moment it happend and found it on the grocery store floor.
I can't imagine NOT being able to find it! ::HUGS::
