It was amazing. Unique and extraordinary. This pretty much sums it up:

And this woman had almost the same menu that we had and took fantastic photos:

Grant Achatz came out and created that last dessert. I wanted to squee but he seems very shy and I was afraid to scare him.
When do you go?

Re: Lindsay--Alinea
That looks heavenly. Friends of mine are going next weekend, and now that i am seeing hte pictures I am even more jealous.
Fallin, should you ever head to the DC area, I highly recommend Restaurant Eve's Tasting Room. We have been there twice and it is orgasmic.
Those pictures are amazing. Go big or go home, we are definitely doing the "tour" when we go on 8/20. I can hardly wait. (Have I mentioned I'm sad that you'll be gone from Chicago by the time we visit?)
What did you guys drink? Wine, wine pairings, cocktails?

EAB--thanks for the rec.
Kristen--I can't wait to read it. I've had it forever and just haven't gotten to it. Stupid packing.
Lindsay--Definitely do the tour, if for no other reason than Grant Achatz making food right at your table. We just chose a couple of glasses of wine off the list. We aren't big drinkers and I, especially, don't love wine. They are trying out cocktails for the new restaurant, so our first "course" was a trio of cocktail "bites." Then, the beef course came paired with a special wine.
Fallin-it's a good read. Though he's decided he hates tasting menus and therefore...Aliena. :-( Though as he says, he eats menus like that all the time so it might be that he's burned out on the format and indulgence. It looks ah-mazing to me.
Lindsay, we'll be on Lake Michigan near Chicago the week of the 20th. We're taking a jaunt into the city one day, haven't decided when yet. Maybe we'll come lick the windows while you're eating here. ;-)
How long are y'all in Chicago? I'll be in town from the 25th through the 29th for a wedding.
Kristen--his new found hate of tastings is funny given I've never seen hime as blissed out as during the French Laundry episode.
Aug 19-22. We'll miss you. But Kristen, keep me posted, perhaps we can do a rendezvous in the city.
So Kay, am I the evil twin or is she? Life is a soap opera, right, we all have an evil twin somewhere.

That's interesting b/c we tried to decide whether we liked TFL or Alinea better and decided there is really no way to compare. Other than remarkable attention to detail and amazing flavors, they are so dissimiliar. TFL makes you close your eyes and moan. Alinea makes you blink and laugh out loud. Both are outrageously good.
Once I get moved, I plan to do nothing but swim and read for two weeks.
