Can i change someone's address for them?
We have lived in our current home for a year and a half...for that entire year and a half I have gotten mail for a guy (I guess that used to live here) ALMOST EVERY DAY! I know that doesn't seem annoying to the normal person but after my daily writing of "RTS No longer at this address" I'm getting frustrated. Most of his mail is real mail (not presorted, sent to everyone) and a lot of it is legal (jury duty, DWI information, AAA information).
So, my question is, can I officially change his address without knowing his new one? I just don't want his mail anymore and want the post office to know not to deliver it anymore.
Re: Can i change someone's address for them?
No I don't think you can. In order to change his address you would need his new address. Plus you would have to declare that you are him and provide a credit card where the billing address matches the one he would be "moving from".
I wouldn't expect it to stop either. I lived in my first house for almost 10 years and received mail occasionally for the previous owners the entire time I lived there.
Just think of it as junk mail and toss it.
ETA: Have you asked your mail carrier what if anything can be done to stop his mail from coming to your house? I would think someone who actually works for the post office would the most up to date information.
