Aloha everyone! (LONG update)

It's been a while since I've been here.  Been super busy with the process of moving.  A lot has happened:

There was a delay in us closing.  All the closings that were to take place in early July got delayed until late July, which was a bummer.  We found out 3 days before the closing was to take place.  So I had to call and ask landlord to allow us to stay another month.  All of our stuff was already in storage as there was going to be a week's delay betw the time we were to move out of apt and getting the keys.  So we planned to stay in our time share in Waikiki during that time.  We still ended up staying in Waikiki and played tourist for a few days.  Had to go and buy an air bed, cheapo shower curtain, and other necessities.  We are living out of suitcases as well!

Things are progressing though.  Last wk, we did all of the closing paper work and had to hand over the big kahuna...down payment. Did the final walk through and got a little orientation to our home and the responsibilities of being a homeowner.

We move in a week, so been busy arranging for the electricity, water, cable, etc to be established.  We've been shopping and window shopping for our furniture and home items.  Decided to furnish and decorate our home w/ Hawaiian decor (of course :) Already found our dinnerware, glasses, comforter set, curtains.  Did make the big purchase of a dining room set.  Next is our bed and refrigerator.  Going slow because we don't want to get into debt.  We've also been looking at living room furniture.  Hopefully we can purchase in the next few months.

We've taken tons of pics.  Haven't had the chance to download them yet.  Hopefully soon.

**Local girls:  any recommendations for home security companies?  Not sure who to go with.  Doing some research.

  • Gah!  Sorry to hear that your closing got delayed.  Living out of a suitcase sucks!  I'm glad you have a place to stay, though.

How exciting to be moving into your new home in a week!

GL with all of the tasks/errands/shopping that needs to be done!  Smile

  • I've been thinking about you and wondering how the house business was coming along. Congrats on the closing!!! Party!!! This week will fly by. You're playing it smart doing little by little. There are so many things needed for a new house. It adds up super fast. Have fun furnishing/decorating the new place. Can't wait to see pics!
  • i've been wondering how things were going for you!  sorry closing got delayed - glad everything worked out with you staying in waikiki though, and you finally closed!

we're definitely taking it bit by bit with furnishings and decor too - i had all these grand visions of the furniture i would buy, etc, with our house (which we still haven't moved into, but that's another post!), and then we sat down to look at all the expenses coming up.  who knew you have to spend so much money on the house after buying the house? Stick out tongue  sigh.  so yeah...no new furniture for a while for us.

at any rate, sounds like you're making great progress!

  • so exciting to be moving in now! and shopping! woo-hoo!
  • wow i understand your frustration! i think it's unfortunately kind of common...we had a delayed closing too and almost lost the house! glad everything is set for you now, though and i hope the move goes smoothly!! don't forget craigslist and the salvation army for some of your home needs :) and stores like ross, marshall's, TJ maxx etc are great too
  • Wow!  How exciting...sucks for the delay...but glad you've taken it all in stride and moving forward with moving in to your own place.  Congrats!  It's a HUGE step and one that we've not be fortunate enough to take just yet.  Yay for Hawaiian-style decor...I'll be having some of that someday too...even if we still live in the midwest!
  • yay!  i have been waiting for an update from you.  can't wait to see pictures.

sorry there was a delay and things have been so hectic though.
