Can I still eat this?

I have white chicken chili in the fridge from last Wednesday.  I couldn't eat the whole bowl and saved half, not thinking about the fact that I took Thursday & Friday off.  So, it's 5 days old.  I got it from Bruegger's, so I assume it has plenty of preservatives to start with.  Thoughts?

  • The rule at my house is leftovers last a week. I'd say you're still in a safe, edible window. I know Don would still eat it.
  • I want to clarify exceptions to my rule. Obviously a growth of mold or funky smell would be a no, even within 7 days, ha. Most foods I've seen don't incur this in that timeframe, but there are exceptions. If it passes the visual and sniff test, I'd say go for it.
  • If you ate the other half of it out of that bowl, throw it out. As for preservatives there are likely not many in that one seeing as how it would have been mfg and packaged. The key to this question would be whether you double dipped though. If you didn't... you would probably be ok, technically. Personally I wouldn't eat it but I am very anti left-overs.

     

  • I will eat it within 3-4 days...after that I throw it out.  I am always scared of getting sick.

    I have a 1 week rule too!  And Brock would still eat it! LOL  

  • Agh! I totally would've eaten it, but then Gerrie chimed in and now has me paranoid about mouth germs swimming around in my chili.  Whether or not it's safe doesn't matter as now I am completely grossed out Crying lol Thanks, Ger!
