How did yesterday go?  And more importantly, was Ellen there?

Re: SB

  • I updated in the thread below with some info.

None of the judges were there.  Justin Guarini was there in the line, and Ryan Seacrest was also there, which was a surprise.  I think he doesn't usually come to the first round auditions.

We were in line outside for a couple of hours, then went into the arena.  You got a ticket at registration, so there was assigned seating.  Everyone we talked to was super nice and excited and it was really fun.  Then once we got seated, they brought out Ryan and shot the opening "This is American Idol" sequence.  We were right next to the aisle that the brass band was in, so I'm pretty sure we'll be on TV.  Then they shot some more crowd shots and Ryan left.

The actual auditions were with producers of the show.  There were ten tables, and we were in groups of 4 people.  Each group of 4 would go up to the table, and they would point to you, you sing for about 15 seconds.  Once everyone had gone, they called us up close to the table and critiqued us (although it was very generic and I'm sure they say the same thing to everyone).  She told me I had a great, powerful voice, but that I wasn't what they were looking for this season.

One of the girls in my group made it through to the next level.  I think the next level is to come back and see the actual judges in a couple of months, or if there's another cut before that.  But she was really awesome, and super nice so I'll be looking for her.

  • It sounds like it was a pretty cool experience!  I always wanted to something like that (probably not the singing because I shatter eardrums) but really never had the guts.

  • When will this season air? I want to see you on the TV.
  • It was really fun! Great people watching, too.

I felt really bad for a lot of the younger people who were obviously taking it really seriously.  There was a lot of crying going on outside the "Non-winners exit."  There are no losers on American Idol, doncha know?

  • did it actually say "non winners exit"?
  • It just said Exit, but they referred to it as non-winners exit multiple times.
