Need ideas for P/T work from home

I recently started working in outside sales, and in a few months will be on straight commission. I am working really hard at getting new accounts (I sell transportation...hot shots, courier, etc.), but I'm not sure that I will have enough accounts by the time I go on straight commission to make a decent check. Any ideas on a P/T job that I can do from home that won't take too much time away from my family?

Re: Need ideas for P/T work from home

  • Hi There! I work a full time job, on salary, so I work a lot... but I still find time for my side job since I can always use extra funds. My husband isn't working right now (he's looking for police work, which is scarce). I sell Scentsy. I'm not too into the direct sales businesses... not because I think they don't work, but because they take a lot of work! However, my husband bought me a warmer for Valentine's Day this year and I loved it! He said "I think you should sell this; you'd be good at it". I sat on the idea for several weeks, thought about and later decided, "what the heck!?". It has been so simple to make extra cash, and I'm selling something I love- candles! scents! :) However, they're wickless, so even better! It's wax that is placed on a warmer, heated by a light bulb inside. They smell amazing. The first 2 weeks I started selling, I sold over $1,000 worth of product without ever having a party/show! I just put the warmer on my desk at work and I swear, people came in from the hallways just asking where I bought it so they could get one, lol. I told them I had just started selling it and that I could give them a catalog if they wanted one. Of course no one declined and the orders started pouring in. I honestly don't have a lot of extra time, being a hard working woman, married, trying to start a family, etc... but I have things I want to save up for. I started doing one open house per month. It's easier to do an "open house" than a party because it's less formal & offers people the flexibility of getting in and out on their terms/time. It's more comfortable for everyone. All you do is show up, set up, answer questions, offer door prizes and maybe some snacks and sell! It's honestly that simple. Please feel free to ask me any questions. You can check out my website to see if it's even something you'd be interested in. Let me know! Sorry I wrote a novel, but it's something I really enjoy and truly believe is a fun, simple way to make extra cash while meeting new people and having girl time!

  • Can you write?  I do about 10 articles a week for Demand Studios at $15 each. You can do more or less, there's always articles to claim. They are legit but you have to be somewhat of a decent writer for them to accept you and your articles.

I also write and copyedit for Demand Studios. I made about $1300 extra the last couple months, though I don't know if I can maintain that high on a regular basis.

I've heard of this Scentsy stuff, and it sounded neat, but I've yet to do any research into it. I know that to join, there is something like a $99 kit to buy to get started or something.

What I was wondering is if you actually get a check or whatever, or if it's more like AVON?

I started selling AVON my freshman year in college because I'd heard you could make enough to support your college education. So I paid the $10 and was under the assumption I'd be getting a paycheck of sorts for the products I sold. I was not informed that it's more of a "You buy products using your representative discount and make a profit when you sell them to customers for full price." So you have to have a bunch of clients that buy regularly in order to make any kind of money. That wasn't possible in the small town I lived in that already have 5 AVON reps.

So what I'm wondering is, how do you make the $$$ with Scentsy?

  • I'm not sure what you are interested in doing but I've started promoting a Health Challenge that has greatly improved my health, helped me to lose weight, as well as family and friends and its becoming increasingly popular around the country so I'm starting to just have people tell me that they want to get started.  If you want to e-mail me, I can give you some more info.  I get a check every week if I do something that week.  I'm also quickly working my way to a BMW, which for now, I'll take that bonus money and apply to my car payment to help with bills.  email me at elisedotdalton9 at gmail dot com.  The above is right, direct sales is a good way to earn a part time income because it also allows you the tax breaks of a small business owner which will help come the end of the year.  I did Avon in the past too. That was the biggest pain in the butt and I never made a dime, but with this, I do.

  • I sold AVON too and never made anything, either. But with this business, Im able to pay my morgage AND a car payment this month!Smile
  • I have tried direct sales before (Mary Kay) and it didn't work out. Maybe Scentsy is different, but what do I have to invest to get started, and how do you get paid?
  • I used to love to write, but only about things I was passionate about. If it wasn't interesting to me, it was hard for me to make it interesting for the reader. What do you have to write about?
