Where do you go for your decorating ideas?

I'd love to spruce up the house a little bit with some new touches, but I have no idea where to even begin. What do you guys look at for inspiration?

Re: Where do you go for your decorating ideas?

  • I get a lot of inspiration from Pottery Barn catalogs.
  • All over--magazines, catalogues, stuff on TV, stuff I see IRL....  The D&R board and those ladies' bios can be really helpful too.
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

    Me too!

Or HGTV shows. My mom is also a good decorator so I consult with her now and then too. I'm not letting her near the nursery though. That is all mine and I am getting inspiration from online and PBKs for that one.

  • Ditto on catalogues and HGTV, l also try to focus on one piece or theme (don't I sound like an HGTV designer wanna-be?).

I fell in love with a patterned chair for our office and used that as "inspiration" for the rest of the room.  Or I would say you could pick a certain color and go complimentary or monochromatic.

Painting can be a good way to add some new touches too, we're thinking of painting a couple rooms here in our new place.

  • I would start by going to a book store, and finding home magazines that meet your style. Maybe you could find something in Modern Home, or County Living, Architectural Digest or Dwell.

I like to find small home boutiques and browse. The South End has Hudson Home, Michelle Willey, D Scale, Mitchel Gold, More and McPhearson and many more. Some of these are a bit pricey, but it's fun to get ideas. Beacon Hill also has some wonderful home stores as well.
