What is the average cost of your electric bill during the year?

During the year, each month is under $200.
This summer, it has been hot! That paired with all my sewing (im guessing)...it was really high! For July it was about $400! Eeeekkk
Our house is a ranch, not too big I dont think. We keep our ac on 78-80. And, I do use a fan when it gets too hot also- DH and I sit in front of it when it gets insanely hot haha. Im a stickler about having lights off...our families make fun of us for not really keeping lights on in the house, the first words out of their mouths when they walk in the door is "It's dark in here!"
I guess it just varies...
We have around 1800 finished square feet. ours this month was $180 and that's the absolute highest it's been all year. it's been hot as hell and we run a pool pump too during the summer, so that has added on. during a normal month I think it's around $100.
we keep our air around 75-78, keep lights off, keep ceiling fans on to circulate air, rarely have the tv on now that we don't have cable, etc. we keep our blinds closed as well to help keep it cool during the day.
dh has insulated our place like crazy. He honestly just walks around checking for 'leaks' where air may be getting out and then quickly fixes the problem. we bought a new heating/cooling system last year and it's a very high seer, so it's very efficient.
caroline, i still have no idea how it's possible to have your power bill that low! dh says our power company has the lowest rates in the country, so I don't know how the heck you could run a house on that little of a bill. do you have any idea how many watts you use in a month? I'd like to see how it compares to ours.
Im thinking we need to check our installation in the attic...

Yeah, that was the first 'big purchase' when we moved in the house. the insulation hadn't been done in our attic since the house was built in 1962!
I have no idea how it is that cheap either. Our house is fairly small [about 1200 sq. ft.] but it is old, and we need new windows and doors. We also need more insulation in the attic above our kitchen. It is always the hottest/coldest room in the house.
This is almost funny to me, just because our situation/climate is so different from everyone else's!
We have an electric furnace, and in the winter, our electric bill was a little over $200/month. But we also rarely went below freezing this winter.
Our bills so far this summer (we only get billed every two months) have been a little over $100/month. But we don't have a/c, and we have needed to run the heat until very recently.

Oh gosh this is such a sore subject in our house.
We live in a 1900 sq foot home that was built in the 40's or 50's. Since the home is only temporary we have not dont much about replacing the installation that I know needs to be done.
On average in the summer months we range from 200-250. In the winter months we range from 100-150. We keep all blinds closed and I even have the thermal drapes that help keep the sun out in the summer. The location of the house and the installation just adds to the air we need to run.
Caroline I have no idea how yall have such a low bill. That is very low!
During the summer, our electric bill is around $125. During the winter it's around $30, but that's because we have gas heat.
In the summer, we leave our AC on 78 during the day, M-F, while we're at work, and on 68 at night (I get hot at the drop of a hat). On the weekends when we're home, it stays on 72 during the day.

we keep ours on about 72 (though i'm constantly cuddling in a blanket!) all the time. our friends who live off base and have to pay for their electricity pay several hundred dollars (i've heard like $400) and they keep it at 80. Electricity in Guam is EXPENSIVE if you live off base.
