Apparently I can't tell time

I was scheduled to work at 11:30 today.  I'm always scheduled to start on the hour, not the half hour, so I kept reminding myself that I had to be there at 11:30.  I totally knew I had to be there at 11:30.  But 37 minutes into being there I realized it was 11:37...meaning I got there at 11:00.  I looked at the clock before I got dressed, before I left the apartment, numerous times while driving, and when I clocked in.  But yet I never realized I was doing everything a half hour early.  Clearly, I'm an idiot.  But I got paid for an extra half hour, so my stupidity worked out pretty well for me.

  • A half hour of pay for a silly mistake never hurt anyone!

I showed up for work one day when I wasn't scheduled. I was really dreading going in that day too. I smacked myself for that one!

  • I've done that, not once but twice.  My schedule flip-flops all the time.  It's never consistant, so a couple of times I've gone in an hour earlier than scheduled.  Problem is, I'm salaried, so no extra pay.  I didn't realize til much later that I was in early.

  • I'm lucky the place was less than 10 minutes away from my apt. I hated that job. Ended up quitting when they cut me down to THREE hours a week. I was barely getting paid more than minimum wage. Forget that!
  • One of my friends once fell asleep in the afternoon.  When she woke up the clock said 7:30 and she thought she was going to be late for work. She rushed there and opened the building and started getting ready for the work day.  When noone was there by 8 she got worried and called another co-worker.  They then informed her that it was 8pm, not 8am and the clinic didn't open for another 12 hours!  We still laugh about it!

I showed up right on time for work one morning (7:30 AM) and I walked in and my boss was like "What are you doing here??"  I gave him this blank stare and all I could think in my head was "did I get fired and no one told me?"  So I told him "Um, working??"  He then told me that there was a two hour delay due to the snow.  CRAP!!!  I had even watched on tv for the closings and everything and never saw that the military post had been delayed.  I SOOOOO could've slept in that day!!!

  • I used to work 3-11 on Monday nights (it's 1-9 now, which is sooo much better), but the rest of the week I'm 9-5. Well, I work 10-6 on Mondays if we're on summer, Christmas, spring break, etc. because we close at 6:00 instead of 11:00 when the students aren't around. Once I lost track of the fact that it was Fall Break or some random thing like that and I came breezing in at 3:00 pm, only to find out that we were closing 3 hours later and I should have been there at 10:00.

We've all done it a few times, though, so everybody just laughs about it and uses half a vacation day or makes the time up later.
