Help me find an art class or something please.

I'm looking to take a just for fun class where I can go and paint or draw or whatever but when I googled "adult art classes" and "adult painting classes" surprisingly, the stuff that came up were all for actual schools to get degrees and stuff. I was hoping to find a 6-8 class course or something where beginners or people like me who haven't held a paintbrush in 20 years can go to learn and have fun. I don't want to schlepp so it would be great if it could be near the Gramercy Park/Flat Iron area. I would also be interested in cooking classes too. Thanks.

  • Oh, and I already checked with the 14th Street Y and they have no classes like that.
  • Does Pearl Paint have classes, or maybe Micheal's or some art supply store?

I had done cake decorating classes at Michael's a few years ago and it was a lot of fun.

  • I'm not sure about art, but for cooking classes, I took a knife skills course at ICE, http://www.iceculinary.com/, and it was great.  They have a ton of other classes, cooking, food pairings, all sorts of things.

    hope that helps

  • I took a really great pottery class a few years ago. It was at a great little studio in Williamsburg. http://www.choplet.com/

My friend and I took it for a couple sessions - we loved it! I still miss the class and I have a lot of great pottery that resulted from it.

  • Well, it's not in that area, but I have taken classes like that at the 92nd St Y. They have every kind of art class - drawing, watercolors, sculpture, ceramics, etc. - I took a drawing class there and it was fun. I also took a ceramics class at the YWCA when it was open, but once it closed they moved those classes to the 92Y. They also have jewelry making classes (haven't taken them but they looked fun).

It might be worth the trip.
