Where do you buy "home decor"?

After spending the weekend with my friends, most of whom really like to decorate, I feel like I need to put more effort into making our home look nice.  So where do you tend to buy your "home decor"?  Do you buy online, or do you tend to only buy in person?

I get my home decor from just about anywhere.  Hobby Lobby, Michaels, IKEA, Homegoods, Target, Walmart, Craigslist, ebay, etsy and very seldom I will find something at WS or PB (on clearance!).

I "make" or DIY a lot of our home decor, its fun and cheap :)  I get a lot of ideas from the D&R board, their blogs and bios are awesome.

  • I really wish we had a Homegoods here!  I hear so many good things about that place.  I should definitely take advantage of the fact that we have an IKEA not too far away.

I love IKEA's frames, they are cheap and look really nice.  They have awesome photo/wall ledges too.  Have you thought about doing a "photo wall"?  There are some inspiration pics to do that in the link I posted above.

I dont have a pic, but I know someone who took one wall and put 3 long photo/wall shelves floor to ceiling and propped family photos on it in various sizes and it looks so good.

I love to decorate, but dont really have the $$$ right now for it.  You should see our florida pink sofa ;)  LOL.

  • I don't find Ikea's stuff particularly exciting and attractive. Most of the decor in our house is from Home Goods, Ross, Marshall's and a little bit from Pier 1 when I can get it on sale. Oh, and World Market!
  • geez - good question. our house is "decorated" but basically just decorated with what we each brought in from our single days and lots of hand me downs! it's hard to get rid of hand-me-downs that are still in good shape....  our decorations are really just personal pictures & Texas A&M prints ... maybe after the next move i can put more effort in, hah.
  • I only buy in person. I get stuff from everywhere - Hobby Lobby, Wal-Mart, Target (clearance! Awesome stuff for awesome prices.), even yard sales and the Goodwill.

I found my white photo frames for my bathroom on the Target $1 aisle.
A lot of my candle holders are leftovers from my wedding that we bought on sale or clearance at Hobby Lobby.

I mix and match my photo frames. I have one collage on the wall that has two frames from Target (wedding gifts) arranged with some cheaper (but nice looking) ones from Wal-Mart that match the others.

The curtains in L's room and ours actually came from Fred's. One of my best finds has been the large custom frame for our e-pic. I found it at a yard sale for $8, the price on the back says $150!

Remember - nice doesn't have to mean $$$. Smile

  • I usually stick to Home Goods, Ross, Pier 1, and Crate and Barrel. Sometimes I find some really nice stuff on clearance at Target too. And stopping into Goodwill is nice sometimes because you never know what you can find!

  • I love to decorate.

I find alot of things at Kirklands. Since T runs a furniture store I have gotten most of my pictures and lamps from him either his boss has given them to me or I paid very little for them.

  • i've diy'd some things. i painted an old door and hung above our couch. I framed our initials to hang over our bedside tables. I got a glass cloche and a pretty plate at a prop sale at work and put a little bird nest under it that we found in the yard :)

I like decorating with pretty dishes and bowls. We have space on top of our cabinets in the kitchen. I put 3 silver mixing/serving bowls (they're all different) on top of one side. And above the other cabinets I put all my cake stands. That was all dh's idea actually. It freed up space in our cabinets and it adds some color. I also have decorative plates I've picked up on vacations and on clearance at stores and hang them with plate hangers. The previous owners actually had lots of pretty different white plates hung on the wall above their bed.

I've found a couple of things at Hobby Lobby.   And i'm with kellie. i loove ikea's picture frames. esp the white ones
