big trip, to say the least... Do I bring something?

In 3 weeks, we will be going to DR to meet my in-laws for the first time. I'll be meeting my mother-in-law, 3 brothers-in-law, their wives and niece and nephews (ages1-17). I got my tourist book and everything I can think of to deal with the heat.

Now, I'm wondering what we should bring. I wanted to bring the niece and nephews something. I thought at first they were all little, so I was thinking teddy bears, but only 2 are that little. I have wedding pictures and an album for his mom. Sometimes, my family loves the corny I loveNY stuff, but DH says that's actually all over DR already. We will be staying with them for the week. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

  • Whenever I go home, I bring homey stuff for the adults: sheet sets, shower curtains, bags, wallet, perfumes, etc. For the kids, clothes, fancy school supplies, candy, etc.

  • for the sisters in law, i'd definitely get things that might qualify as "hostess gifts," and for the kids, maybe clothes or games (does DH know if they play video games?).

good luck with the big meeting, and have a great time!

  • My family in Europe love clothing but I know most of my cousin's sizes.  That can be tough if you don't know.

For the adults, I like to get things that can be consumed.  Wine, booze, local things like maple syrup, candies. The liquid stuff is harder to bring nowadays, but it's usually easy to get at the duty-free and well-received in my family.

Do the kids speak or learn English in school?  Games (like Apples to Apples), books, anything fun in English is good if they do.  I got my younger cousin a couple of the Harry Potter books in English and she looooved it.
