Bummed (working out vent)

I was doing so good with my running and working out and I now I can't for the next 2 weeks!   I have had a lingering sinus/ear/throat infection for a LONG time and it just won't clear fully.  The ENT dr. just put me on round 3 of antibiotics and the particular one he gave me has a high incidence of causing tendonitis and tendon rupture if you are active while taking it!  So no running or exercising at all for 2 weeks, its So annoying! I think the 1/2 marathon I was planning on in November is officially out of my grasp :(   Sigh....vent over :(

  • Ohh, NOOO!!!! I'm sorry to hear you're feeling bad and that you aren't able to keep up with your workouts. :( If you're feeling ok to run after 2 weeks do you think it'll be too late to go back for your 1/2 marathon training? My friend runs half marathons all the time, and I thought she said you only need a few months to train for a half..would it give you enough time to start training the end of August for a November race?

  • That is a huge bummer!  But don't quite yet on training for your half marathon.  I'm sure you can get back into the swing of things soon!

  • Danielle I still think you can do the half maraton - All of the articles I've read show that if you have an injury and/or are sick it is important to REST and RECOVER before starting training again. I think that if you just get yourself back into training after you have fully recovered you will be find. Just push yourself a little harder but I think it is totally possible for you to do that half marathon - Especially since it is in November! You still have plenty of time!
  • I agree! Rest up, get better, then jump back in full force!! You've got plenty of time!!
  • I don't know anything about marathon training but all of the above sounds positive so keep your chin up, and I hope you feel better!!!!
  • Getting better is the most important thing! You can jump right back on that horse in 2 weeks and I promise everything will be fine. According to my marathon friend, you should be able to get proper training done within 2.5 months. Mike thought about running a half marathon in July this year but was afraid the wedding & honeymoon wouldn't allow him the time he needs to train. She told him he could start training in May and be fine. Now a full marathon is a different story. She is running the Chicago marathon in October and started her training last month.

    You can do it!!!
