Adopting a dog!

So we're joining all you dog owners on the board - DH and I are adopting a 2 yr old Pomeranian! She's coming up to CT from her foster family down south in 2 weeks and we're really excited to meet her and welcome her into our home!  DH is super excited - he grew up with dogs (albeit, big dogs not little ones like ours will be!), as am I.

She's totally housebroken, crate trained, loves people and other animals and on the calm side for her breed...which is nice.

Yay, we're pet parents!!!

Re: Adopting a dog!

  • YAY!!!! How exciting! THat'll be cool getting an older dog. The first year can be quite a pain haha.

  • woot woot!!!!!!!!!! welcome to our club haha What's her name?
  • Her name is Daisy - she was rescued from a high kill shelter in Memphis and is now living with her foster fam in Mississippi. So we're getting a little southern belle!  I'm going to turn her into a New England prepster asap - her collar will be pink & green, just like my wedding colors - lol!

Not trying to burst your bubble or anything, but you're TTC, right?  Just wanted to make sure that you're prepared for the full responsibility of taking care of a new dog AND a new baby!  I don't know much about pomeranians, but I've heard that they can be pretty high strung, so just want to make sure that you've thought about all of that before baby arrives.  But yay on getting a rescue from a high-kill shelter!!!

  • Sara, thankfully this one is apparently on the calm side for her breed and she likes to cuddle / be a lap dog so she's not one of the bouncy, high-strung ones.  She's also 2 so she's not a brand new puppy, thankfully for us since you are right - we are TTC. We wouldn't have pursued her if she weren't described as sociable and gets along well with kids / people / other dogs of both genders. I'm sure she'll do well in our household. :-)

  • Oh - she looks like a little fox with her reddish / blonde coloring. She has white around her mouth and "eyebrows".  Those cute little triangle, straight up ears.

Right now she's shaved since she had some excessive matting from when she was rescued.

Ok, good!!  Just wanted to make sure that you guys had thought things through all the way!!  I'm not implying that you wouldn't have done so, but I just wanted to make sure!  Well, in that case, congrats on being a pet parent!!!  Hopefully, you'll be a person parent soon, too!!!
