Fallin - The girl with the dragon tattoo is being re-made

with Daniel Craig and Ellen Page as Lisbeth!

Im' feeling sort of creeped out by that relationship though, as I still see Ellen as 8 years old somehow.

I am just starting the 3rd book now and LOVED the first two. I have the DVD ready to go once I'm finished.

  • ELLEN PAGE!? I don't know how I feel about this. They are going to have to do an awful lot to make me forget those stupid "Ellen Page visits her doctor and he's in Singapore seeing patients via satellite" commercials.

  • I am just excited to see it in English. I hate reading movies. I read the book. I don't need to read it on a big screen with moving pictures.
  • I still haven't worked out whether I loved the book or was too disturbed by it. I wonder if seeing it will be worse than reading it.

If you get the DVD apparently the english dubbing is really good. I usually hate dubbing but my mom said she could barely tell and it made it far more enjoyable.

I found the first very disturbing. The second not so much, just dark. And I've just started the last one. J had to tell me to sleep at 1 am last night as I was flipping into the 3rd one. I would have kept on reading into the morning.

  • damn, it's subtitled on netflix. oh well.

and i agree the first was the most disturbing.

I need to read the second one then. I stopped after the first. It kept me turning pages quickly, but I've just never been good with torture/rape etc. It sticks with me for a long time. Dark I can handle.

  • Ahhhh, lalalala, not reading spoilers, lalala.

I'm reading the Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo now*, and I have high hopes for it (and the movies).  I've seen stills from the original movie, and that chick is smoking hot.  Ellen Page, not so much.  Boo.

    * by now I mean the first few pages and will finish it in a few weeks when I don't have a million things to do at work.

It is subtitled but if you go in and change the "language" settings you click english and it is dubbed.

  • Is Ellen Page a certainty?  B/c no.  There was no way to cast a known US actress as Lisbeth, but Page is particularly wrong.  So innocent and cute with her big brown eyes and pouty lips.  Better than KStew in that she can act but still wrong.

The Swedish films are so good and Rapace is perfect.  I think I have to boycott these on principle.

I just heard it on the radio this morning. So it could be wrong. But I thought it was a strange pick. She's just so adorable.

  • thanks lanie. Good to know.

And i agree about Ellen Page. We need new blood for lisbeth though. surely we can find new actresses and actors ou there. it seems like the same 5 people are in movie after movie.

Agreed.  I doubt there is an American actress I would like more than Rapace as Lisbeth...it's just not possible, so I guess it might as well be Ellen Page.  Does Rapace speak English?  She should be in ALL the movies.  :-)

I don't mind Daniel Craig as Blomkvist.

I just started the third book and have grand plans of sitting on the deck at the cabin and reading that book all weekend!

  • I cannot see Ellen Page as Lisbeth. I just can't. In my head I'm seeing her play Lisbeth as all sarcastic and it's not working at all. I guess my only knowledge of Ellen Page is from Juno and Whip It, so maybe I'm completely underestimating her skillz as an actress.

I think we're planning on watching the Swedish version in the next few days, since Lorne finally finished the first book. I'm excited.

Seriously, hold a casting call. Pluck someone out of obscurity.

I got the first two books in paperback so I'm waiting for the third to come out in paperback because I hate having a collection in different formats and it's killing me.

  • I like Daniel Craig, but I'm not picturing him as Kalle *** Blomkvist.  But if he takes his shirt off, all is good.

If you watch Ellen Page in hHrd Candy, it may give you a different view of her.  It is a well made movie, but very disturbing.  My husband still cringes when it's mentioned.

  • I love Ellen Page.  LOVE.  But I don't see her for Salander one tiny bit.

I also don't see Daniel Craig for Blomkvist, but then again I just don't see him for much of anything.  He's not attractive.  Even when he takes his shirt off and I try not to look at his face, because then ALL I can look at is his face, and it's totally jacked.

I doubt Rapace was offered the part, but she has said anyway that she isn't interested b/c making the films was so draining for her.  Understandable.

The other problem is that the American version will undoubtedly sanitize the violence and up the romance and, thus, lose the tone of the books and the core of who Lisbeth is.

  • I'd like to just share how much I'm loving this book right now.  I am close to the end, and I can sort of see Ellen Page as Lisbeth...sort of?  I don't know.  I hope they don't deviate too much from the book.

  • IF and it is a pretty big if in my mind, she has the acting chops, I could see her being able to pull off the look.
