Why can't people STFU?

I have a small FB vent. Why do people feel the need to put their two cents in on everything? My post this morning was about my mom buying our crib and thanking her. My friend chimes in with "Boy you're not wasting anytime are you?" WTF? I gave a pretty snarky response about having 4 months left and two of those months will be during the cold Christmas shopping season, so no I'm not wasting any time.

Over the weekend I posted that DH and I found a child friendly hotel in Bora Bora and are going there for our trip next year with LO. I got snarky responses about "We'll see about that when you have a baby" "Are you out of your mind?" I even got a long response from one of my friends about the nightmare it was to travel on a plane for an hour with her baby. Am I just being naive or don't people travel ALL THE TIME with babies? I spend a lot of time on the Travel board and nearly everyday someone talks about taking their LO to Europe or somewhere else just as far. Why is this such a big deal? I spent an hour one day talking to a woman who took her two kids with her all over the world throughout their childhood. She said as soon as she was able, she trained them how to behave on a plane and never had problems with them. My cousin took her 3 kids to Denver last week and nearly had a nervous breakdown. Why? Because she stressed about every aspect of it and was nearly in tears at the thought of taking the trip with three kids. How about you relax?

Now, I will certainly not be taking a plane ride thinking it's going to be smiles, giggles, and no crying, but come on. It's not the end of the world traveling with a child. DH and I travel. That is our lifestyle. Baby will fit into that lifestyle. Now we may get a kid who doesn't cooperate and will not be taking 15 hour flights right away, but it doesn't mean we can't take a 3 hour plane ride every now and then. I just talked to a sorority sister this weekend who took her almost two year old to Europe for 6 weeks this summer. It can be done people! Grrr...vent over.

Re: Why can't people STFU?

  • You are right to get everything done ahead of time.  You don't want to go into labor early like me and freak out because you don't even have your bag packed.  We didnt even have a carseat yet because the pattern I wanted, I was expecting BRU to receive a shipment. So there was Joe at Toys R Us Christmas Eve trying to pick out a carseat.

Don't listen to people, your the mom and your dh is the dad.  You guys do what you want and if you don't agree with something... Speak yo Mind sista !!! If y'all want to travel the world with your bebe go for it !

  • ((hugs)) I know what you mean about peoples comments, especially when you're hormonal. It used to drive me crazy...especially with "know it alls"

And you're right.. people travel all the time with babies.. you'll be fine! Exactly like you said,  you know it wont be all smiles and giggles. it's not like you're being unrealistic. my SIL traveled to France with my nephew when he was about 10 months old... they got through the flight the best they could have :)

And about the crib thing.. i say screw em! i had my nursery painted, furniture ordered way before Gio  that way in case god forbid he came early we could have 1 less thing to worry about! You never know what can happen! my neighbor was due at the end of August and she had her son June 14th i think and they dont have his room prepared and all the clothes she bought were 0-3 months bc she thought he was going to be a big baby

    Dont sweat it :)

  • It's because everyone in the world knows how you personally are going to be feeling, or how your baby will react to things and you have no clue. At all. That's why they can't STFU. I got the same things when I told people we want to cloth diaper when we have a baby, and make our own baby food. I got laughed at and the "ok, go ahead, you'll see you can't do it". But like you said about lifestyle, that's our lifestyle. We use little throw away things as possible, we don't buy much processed food. I don't mind making my own marinara sauce instead of heating what I just poured from the jar. Or making homemade ketchup or things like that. (Sorry, had to join in your vent for a moment, lol) Everyone assumes they know what your life will be like because it's what wouldn't work for them. They can bite us! Oh, and that crib comment, wth?? If your mom wanted to buy it now, then so what! If you want to put everything in place tonight for the baby, who cares? It's what you want! And it's probably the sooner the better, so your furbabies can get used to it all.

I hated that the most when people would comment and say things like "Oh you'll see" or "wait until the baby comes"

it really got under my skin...as if i had not a clue what happens when you have a baby..or as if i thought nothing in my life would change lol. and for the record, i have slept better the past 3 months that Gio has been alive then i did my whole pregnancy lol I probably got up to pee about 5-7 times a night and had anxiety and restless legs forcing me awake.. Gio wakes me up maybe 2 times a night right now. (i know that can change when he's teething or sick but i'm taking it for what it's worth right now!)

  • I've tried very hard to be patient with people, but I'm just going to snap on some people soon. My mom ordered the crib because she got a killer deal on it, with no tax and no shipping charge, so she ordered it, rather than waiting to see what kind of deal she could get. I also wanted it fairly soon because my Baby Bargains book said to make sure to air out the furniture for a few weeks, and hi, I can't do that when it starts raining! We have our windows opened all the time, so why not just get it out of the box and let it air out the rest of the summer.

Nicole, I know what you mean about the cloth diapers and baby food thing. I'm going to make my own baby food and have gotten eye rolls on that. How hard can it be to cook some veggies and puree them? I mean, really? I'm still up in the air about cloth diapers, but don't think anyone should be giving me the side eye for my choices. It's not like i'm saying I'm going to let my baby go buck naked and eat dirt. Geez...

  • You are smart to get everything bought now.  You have 4 months left and that time is going to fly by!  There is a lot to get done.

My mom traveled alone with 3 kids all the time.  She would pack us toys and activities to do. Always had snacks.  When she flew with us she had leashes to hold on to us with all our junk. lol  My brother & I would pretend we were horses or dogs prancing through the airport.  If we acted up we got in trouble.  We loved to travel when we were little!

I know I don?t have kids....but I think kids need to adapt to your lifestyle.  My friend did that with her 5 kids and it was great.  I use to watch them all time when they were little.  I would pack up all 5 kids and take them to the mall, park etc.

hahahaha!! I love it!! I had a leash too, but I don't remember doing that!

  • They're just know-it-alls.  My friend has taken her 18 month old to the Dominican Republic, Washington, DC and on some cruises starting from about the time she was about 6ish months old.  She said it was actually easier to travel with her when she was younger.  Don't let people get to you.  As the crude saying goes, opinions are like assholes - everyone's got one.

  • This is why I hate facebook sometimes or really when I get comments that I don't appreciate at all. First off, I would delete the comment, and private message her to mind her own business. If she doesn't have anything nice to say then don't say nothing. Then I would go the next step and put her in a group that I don't care about and eliminate all access that she has to write stuff on my wall.

If I post pics/updates/anything at all...she can't say nothing. It's worse then de-friending her...it's like she's invisible to you....that's what I did to my aunt that I can't trust at the moment. Oh well...that's how it goes.

  • This drove me crazy when I was pregnant. No matter what I said, people had some kind of "just you wait and see" response. It's super annoying.
