Re: pregnancy ?? about beta hcg???

  • I had spotting with both of my pregnancies, so that's why I had several done, because it was too early for an u/s to show anything and was considered a "threatened abortion". But my OB does get an hcg beta one time for everyone as part of the routine pregnancy blood work.
  • Pretty much what Hound said. The reason they are doing so many on me is because of my previous m/c history and the spotting this time, so "threatened abortion" like she said.

Some docs do at least one for everyone, some don't. Dr. Puckett said she always does one for everyone, but you joined her after you were already pregnant, right?

  • Yeah, I joined her after I was pregnant.  My old OB could have done one too though, my first appt I had a blood draw, maybe they just didn't report the results back to me.

  • I had to have 2 done because I had some light spotting when I got my bfp. I had them 48 hr apart, I think. They just wanted to check to make sure my numbers were going up.

  • Should my hCG level be checked routinely?

It is not common for doctors to routinely check your hCG levels unless you are showing signs of a possible problem. A health care provider may recheck your levels if you are bleeding, experiencing severe cramping, or have a history of miscarriage.

Since I had a tubal reversal that put me at higher risk for an etopic. I felt like the numbers really saved my life. Once we knew they weren't going up I was followed even closer.

  • if you do any type of fertility treatments they use them.  i had them from 2 wks after until they returned to zero
