Wedding gift cost analysis
I'm buying my sister's wedding present online. What I've picked out is at the upper limit of what I wanted to spend. The item is the same price at Macys or Bed Bath and Beyond.
If I buy the item at BBB, I can use a 20% off coupon on it, saving me money (although I will have to pay shipping).
If I buy the item at Macys, my sister will also receive a bonus gift of 2 soup bowls in her fine china pattern (I cannot find an additional coupon code, but I will get free shipping).
What would you do: save yourself money or get her the bonus gift?
Re: Wedding gift cost analysis
Are the soup bowls worth more than the 20% savings less shipping costs? If so then go that route because whether you get the benefit or she does, its still more value for your money. Additionally, if you do it at Macy's and she signed up for the rewards program, she earns another 5% of what you spend on a gift card.

I'd go with Macy's for a couple of reasons:
1) Bonus gift for the bride (and it's a useful bonus gift!)
2) Potential 5% kick-back to the bride if she signed up for Macy's rewards (like PP said)
3) Free shipping
The savings of 20% at BBB will probably come close to the shipping cost. So, essentially, you get more for the "same" (or closer to the same) amount of money by buying it at Macy's.
HOWEVER - Did she register for the item at both? Because, if so, I might switch my answer to BBB. BBB will allow exchanges for full cash value (in case she gets two of the item you're considering buying), while Macy's only gives store credit.

Despite my insistence, she did not sign up for the rewards (which means money down the drain...)
She registered for the item at both, but I doubt she will receive 2 of them, so I'm not worried about the returns issue (plus, she'll definitely have china left to use any store credit on at either store).
The soup bowls are ~$40 each, so two of them as a bonus gift is a better value than the 20% off at BBB. It's just at the top of my self-imposed budget, and I'm annoyed that an additional discount I was going to use at Macys ended earlier than I realized.
As a wedding/shower gift aside, this is what I got her as a shower gift:

She had seen the same item advertised elsewhere and didn't get it because their budget is tight. I didn't realize she knew about the item and had seen it linked on the nest somewhere and bought her one. She was really excited to receive it and was super surprised.
I love this! I think I'll get one for my FSIL as a shower present and I have to admit I'm a little jealous that I didn't have one for my wedding. Thanks for the idea!
I'm completely jealous that I didn't have one for my wedding pictures. It is the best shower gift ever, and I have a few more in the works for other people
It says on the Esty site that there is an 8-10 week waiting period. Is this accurate? I may be out of luck since FSIL's shower is Aug 28th and their wedding is Sept 25
Unfortunately, yes. I think it took ~2 months to get mine. You could send her a message and ask if 4 weeks is enough time, but she didn't do any correspondance with me. She makes them all by hand and gets a lot orders.
