s/o baby boy names

I know alot of dads pass their names down when they have a son.

Does you DH want to do this?

Re: s/o baby boy names

  • T does not want to do this. He wants our son to have his own name.

We have a friend and he is the second and his gf was telling me that they are going to pass his name down and she said she hated the idea of it.

  • My DH doesn't care, but if we have a boy, we will be passing the name on. The reason is because we want to name him after my dad, but knowing the IL's, they would raise hell if we didn't include a family name of theirs too. So it will be DH's first name (William) and my dad's first name (James), but he'll go by James.

  • DH is a II already.  I'm not sure what his feelings are on this.  I would not mind passing it on his first name is William.  I really like Liam a lot however it's become so popular the past several years I don't want him to have the same name as 2-3 or more boys in his class.  Maybe by the time we have a boy it will have decreased in popularity!

  • Nope. DH hates that his name is so common. There is at least one other guy in our town with the exact same full name. In the town he used to live in - there were seven!

  • We won't use DH's first name, but I'd consider using his middle name (Patrick).  DH really wants to name a son after his dad...but I really don't like the name Rick or Ricky.  I pray we have girls so we don't have to have that discussion.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Sorry, this is a touchy subject with us. DH is named after his dad, and I call him by his first name but his parents call him by his middle name and it irks me. Why call someone something if you're just going to call them by their middle name? So yes, when we didn't know if Lucie was a boy or a girl, he was pushing for ANOTHER Arek and I am dead set against it. It can be a middle name, but I refuse to call my son Arek and have his parents call him by his middle name. Lol, rant over! Also, I don't want to name my son after FIL... lol!
  • mark and his dad have the same middle name, which i'm not that fond of. it was mark's grandmother or great grandmother's maiden name. supposedly, we're supposed to keep it going.

bev, i like james! that's actually fil's first name. we have a friend whose husband's name is james and they gave their little girl a double name, sarah james. I think it's unique and cute :)

Yup.  He hopes we only have boys, LOL.  DH was named after his father, so if we were to have a boy, he would also be named after him and would be a III.

I love when girls have boy names...one of my friends named her daughter Charlee Claire (while I dont like the spelling of Charlee I like the Charlee part) it is a double name also.

But I like names like Jordan, Alex, Wesley...etc... DH thinks I am really crazy.

This is DH's name.  Also, dont discount him using that name for a girl.  LOL, my uncle who is named Ricky named his daughter after himself and they spelled it: Ricci

  • That is nothing...

My cousin is in her late 30's and her name is Donnell. My uncle's name is Don. For the longest time growing up I thought her name was Danielle and people were just saying it wrong. So I asked my  mom why noone could say her name right and she said they are it is Don-nell. Yeah that part of my family is redneck!

  • No we won't. DH isnt named after his dad, one of his brothers is, but that brother didnt name any of his boys that name either.

We will use DH's name as the middle name since I like it (and creates less drama since Emmy's mn is my grandmother's name) and I don't like any of the names on his side of the family (boy or girl)! DH could care less if we use his name at all or not.

Haha...yes!  I made the mistake once of saying that I'd consider letting him use Rock as a middle name...and he quickly jumped onto "Rick Rock S."  I told him it sounds like a porn star name.  He thinks it's funny.

  • DH said no right away to naming the baby after him.  John's middle name is Robert, so the baby would be a square (JR Junior).  He did NOT like that idea, and he doesn't like being called JR, which his family did when he was a kid.
Andrew is my grandpa's middle name, but I didn't know that when we chose that for Chase's middle name.

i know bev & i have already discussed - but i think it's fun b/c my dad's name is james & dh's dad is william.

we'll talked about passing down william as a middle name (that's dh's middle name), but who knows...
