Pregnancy Pet Peeve

Just a little rant. I hate when I get judged for going to Starbucks etc. I met a friend the other day and had a frappuccino in my hand and her first comment was "You shouldn't be drinking that" Umm.. first of all, it's decaf. People automatically see you with a coffee in hand and assume it's not! Second of all, a little bit of caffeine is okay! I've been having a diet coke a few times a week because all the books say 200 mg/day of caffeine is fine and a can of soda has about 30-50 mg! But I swear, I won't drink it in public because I know someone will automatically start judging me!!!

Then I have a pg friend who thinks that you're not allowed to eat any fish at all during pregnancy and she keeps getting on my case because I have a couple servings a week. Again, everything I read actually recommends you eat a couple of servings of low mercury fish per week!

Ok, rant over!

  • Amen sista! I hate when people chime in about what I am eating. grrr. If I am actually eating something, they should be happy. These days I don't want to eat anything.

  • I will never say anything to anyone about what they eat or drink.

The other night T and I went out to eat and the resturant was full so we decided to sit at the bar to eat. We were there for about 2 hours. A couple of bar stools down a girl was pregnant and she told the bartender to never let her wine glass go empty. It was all I could to not get up and say something but like T said it was her business. I just stared at her.

I would never say anything to someone who is PG.  Its their business. But Im not gonna lie, stuff like that does bother me.  I worked with a woman who was PG and took smoke break multiple times during the day.  It made me sick to my stomach to watch.  Her baby had DS :(

  • I might add that I don't drink or smoke!!! Just in case you were wondering! Though a little bit of alcohol during pregnancy is actually ok though I haven't done it.

Whoah - that would definitely bother me if I saw that, but never would I say something.

  • I have a friend who asks about my salt intake all the time!  Yes, my feet and ankles are swollen, but my blood pressure is fine (actually better than prepregnancy).  My doctor isn't concerned about my salt intake, so she doesn't need to be either!

UGH! This drives me nuts...a friend..the mom of the little boy that I used to babysit.. was always on my case when I'd pick up the salt shaker. I like salt, get over it! And she freaken smoked the whole time she was pg and she smokes w/ her kid in the car even though it's against the law! I never said anything about that.

Screw people and their opinions. The same people judging you for your frappachino are harming their kids in some other worse way. No parent is perfect. You are making educated decisions. Obviously, they aren't.

  • i know nothing about what one should/shouldnt eat/drink during pregnancy so sometimes (if i know the person well), i will ask them if they have had to give anything up....but esp b/c i'm pretty dumb about it, i'd never say "you shouldnt be consuming that!" gosh. you know your body.
