If your HH is a cop....

...reply to this post!! I think there are several of us on this board.  And to make things interesting, maybe we should talk about our guys behind their backs :)

What's your favorite thing about being married to a cop?

Least favorite?

Does he have any weird cop habits?

What are his hours?  (always day or night shift, rotating schedule, etc)

Re: If your HH is a cop....

  • Favorite Things: sexy uniform, sense of security, sense of pride/bragging rights, great benefits (insurance and such), I really like his coworkers and their families, the schedule (explained below)

Least Favorite: His days are long and tiring.  Usually, when I ask about his day, he's forgotten all that happened (because SO much happened) and doesn't have much to tell.   It's also dangerous, but I really don't worry about that as much as some people would.  Oh, and I get semi-jealous of so-called "badge bunnies" (girls who are attracted to cops).  :)

Habits: We have special blackout curtains in our bedroom and it's literally PITCH BLACK in there, even at noon.  It helps him sleep during the day. He also has to sit facing the front door (when at a restaurant) and carries a gun anywhere and everywhere (except on our wedding day....I think).   The other day he accidentally said "You copy?" after asking me to do something around the house - HAHA! He was totally embarrassed. Often, he'll flick an imaginary radar button when driving our normal car because we've just passed a speeder and he's so used to turning on his radar when at work.

Hours: He does day shift for a month, night shift for a month, etc.  He works 14 days out of 28 days, and he works 12 hour shifts.  He always works from 6:00-6:00 (whether it's day or night). Ex) This week, he was off Mon/Tues, works from 6a-6p on Weds/Thurs, and is off Fri/Sat/Sun. The whole "every other weekend off" deal is the part of the schedule that I really like :)  And when we take a vacation, he'll only have to "ask off" for a couple of the days because he's naturally scheduled to be off on some weekdays.

     YOUR TURN!

  • What's your favorite thing about being married to a cop? the sense of security and being proud that he does a job that not everyone could do/handle

Least favorite? The danger of course and sometimes I hate the hours

Does he have any weird cop habits?  He brings out the cop attitude sometimes and I have to tell him to check himself.  And he is ALWAYS on alert, thinks everyone is suspicious or hiding something.  He spends alot of time analyzing other people

What are his hours?  (always day or night shift, rotating schedule, etc) Currently they are pretty good, he is in a position where he trains ppl, so he works M-F 11:30am to 8:05pm and is off Sat/Sun.   We dont know how long this will last but we are soaking it up while we can!

I'm adding another question- What PD do they work for?  Mine is NYPD

  • WOOT WOOT! Cop wives :-)

Favorite thing: He's my hero of course. I'm so proud of him for all that he does to keep our hometown safe. He was also the youngest in the department to ever be promoted to Sergeant. He also makes me feel safe.

Least: uhhhhh.... worrying about him. I know he can handle himself, but still. I guess it's a little better now that he's not SWAT. He can't always take my calls when he's at work so if I've had a crappy day sometimes I have to wait to tell him.

Cop habits: he analyzes EVERYONE. He also never sits with his back to a door. ever.

Hours: Shift work... 6pm- 6 am.... we're amazingly used to it.

    PD-- hometown. no where big.

ANOTHER QUESTION: what does your HH do for the police? Mine used to patrol then he did SWAT and now he is going to do K-9

We're married to the same man lmao

we have the curtains of course! Same thing with the restaurant, or anywhere.

we don't leave the house unless one of us is armed.

and he is ALWAYS saying "10-4" to me lmao

I forgot mine does that too!!!! He is currently a field training officer for the new guys. And he is applying for K-9, he's aways wanted to do it, so for his sake I hope he gets it. I'm alittle worried about a 100 pd dog in our tiny house.

  • My Favorite thing is that he is my Hero and has the ability to do the job he does. I also enjoy that he is so knowledgeable about things.

Least Favorite : Like someone else said the "cop mentality, I have to sometimes remind him he doesn't need to be in "work mode" and not everyone is a *** bag that is out to break the law.

His habits are the same that everyone else listed: He has to sit facing the door anywhere we go, he always profiles everyone and is very aware of his surrounding, also making sure not to always take the same route anywhere especially when driving home.

Right now his hours are on afternoons: he works from 230pm-11pm rotating days off 5 on then 2 off then 5 on 3 off. I actually work at the same department as a dispatcher except I work the midnight shift from 1030pm-7am with the same days off.

Works for the local Sheriffs Dept with a take home squad (extra security and gas savings)

He is currently just on patrol, he was part of the Tac (swat) team, and he is interviewing for the K9 position (The same as SarahKay!!!) I hope he gets this one it will be a nice change for him plus we could benefit from another furry family member.

  • I think we all need a cop wife badge, anyone know how to make them?!
  • I'm the furthest thing from a cop, but I have to sit facing the door when we go to restaurants, etc.  I don't like people looking at my back (no clue why) and I always think that someone is sneaking up on me.  I'm weird.
AlternaTickers - Cool, free Web tickers
  • Matt isn't a cop, but he works with adjudicated teen males. I laughed when you guys said your husbands can't turn off work mode and are always thinking that people are up to no good. If anybody does something odd or annoying, Matt says "They're on drugs." And then he'll go off on a 20-minute monologue about the rate of D&A-related crimes and deaths.
  • So interesting! About the badge....a girl who used to post on my local board had a cute/simple one that said "I (heart) my police officer" (in the style of "I (heart) NY" shirts)....but I have no clue about making or getting badges.

We're in North Carolina....and he's a patrol officer right now.  He's still new-ish, but I think after next year he can branch out and do other things if he wants.  He's sometimes interested in the gang unit (umm...SERIOUSLY??). I think K9 would be really cool.  He definitely doesn't want to do anything office-related (ie: sitting in an office doing paperwork) for a looooong time.

Should I post to all the girls here to see if anyone can make us ladies a badge?

  • Sounds good to me!
